Microsoft Introduces Windows 11 Preview Build 27863 in Canary Channel

Microsoft has rolled out a new preview build of Windows 11 in the Canary Channel, designated as Build 27863. Although this update is relatively minor, it brings significant enhancements, particularly in the realm of security with the introduction of post-quantum cryptography. This feature was highlighted during Microsoft’s recent Build conference, showcasing the company’s commitment to evolving its security protocols. Windows 11 now integrates the post-quantum signature algorithm ML-DSA into both the NCrypt and BCrypt cryptography API surfaces, along with the Crypt32 certificate APIs.

Key Fixes in Build 27863

This build also addresses several critical issues:

A fix for error code 0xc0370106, which had prevented some users from launching Windows Sandbox in the previous release.
Resolution of a bug that impeded core Windows interfaces, including File Explorer and the Start menu, from loading correctly in safe mode.
Correction of issues linked to the msftedit.dll library, which had caused applications like Sticky Notes and Dxdiag to crash on systems with specific locales, notably Hebrew and Arabic.

Important Note for Copilot+ Users: Transitioning from the Dev Channel, Release Preview Channel, or retail to the Canary Channel on a new Copilot+ PC can result in the loss of your Windows Hello PIN and biometric sign-in capabilities. Users may encounter error 0xd0000225, with the message, “Something went wrong, and your PIN isn’t available.”To resolve this, you can recreate your PIN by selecting “Set up my PIN.”
If you encounter an Administrative Templates error message when accessing the Group Policy Editor, clicking OK should allow normal operation. One of the issues contributing to this has been addressed in this release, while another fix is in the works for future updates.
The taskbar may not display the acrylic material as expected following the upgrade to this build, which is currently under investigation.
Sound issues are being looked into, specifically affecting audio devices with high sampling rates (like 192Hz) and multiple channels after updating to this latest version. Thanks to our Insiders for providing insightful feedback!
