Microsoft Releases New Windows Insider Build 27858 for Canary Channel Users
After addressing several bugs and technical issues, Microsoft has reintroduced Canary builds for Windows Insiders. The latest build, 27858, is now available for download, offering some notable changes, particularly for desktop and taskbar functionality.
What’s New in Build 27858?
Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel can now enjoy build 27858. While this update might not be extensive, it includes exciting modifications aimed at enhancing user experience.
One significant change is the removal of the colored backplate that was previously used for packaged Windows applications, such as the Snipping Tool and Calculator. This improvement allows for larger and more legible icons on the desktop. It’s important to note that users will need to create new shortcuts to experience this visual update.
In addition to the desktop changes, Microsoft has introduced a new taskbar button, designed for easier access to the emoji panel, conveniently located alongside other tray icons. Users preferring the traditional shortcut (Win + Period) can deactivate this new button by right-clicking on it or adjusting the settings in the taskbar.

Enhancements and Bug Fixes
Beyond new features, this build addresses several critical fixes:
- Improved accessibility within File Explorer
- Corrections for user interface crashes when dragging windows
- Resolutions for issues with the Night Light feature and broken Wi-Fi connectivity from previous builds
- Fixes related to system crashes tied to the KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE error code
