Revamping Windows 11: New Customization for Volume and Brightness Indicators
The volume and brightness indicators in Windows have long been a topic of amusement among PC enthusiasts. Introduced as touch-responsive sliders in Windows 8 back in 2012, these indicators underwent very few changes over nearly ten years. Even with the debut of Windows 11 in 2021, users were greeted with the same outdated sliders, leading to widespread dissatisfaction.
Fortunately, Microsoft has finally taken steps to modernize these features. The recent redesign of the volume and brightness indicators aligns them with the overall aesthetic of Windows 11, leading to a much-needed refresh. But it appears that Microsoft’s efforts in this area aren’t over just yet.
Exciting New Personalization Features
In recent discoveries among Windows 11 preview builds, users have found a hidden customization option that allows them to alter the position of these flyouts on their screens. Notably shared by user @phantomofearth on X, this upcoming feature will enable users to choose the display location for indicators, including those for volume, brightness, virtual desktops, and camera settings. You will soon have the option to place these indicators at the bottom center (the current location), or choose from either the top left or top center of the screen.

Accessing the New Feature
This feature will be accessible via the following path: Settings > System > Notifications > Position of on-screen indicators
. Although Microsoft has yet to officially announce this feature, it is expected that additional enhancements may accompany the formal rollout. In addition to this personalization capability, Microsoft has confirmed a new adaptive power saver mode specifically designed for tablets and laptops, which will be available for Windows Insiders very soon.
