Microsoft Unveils Windows 11 Canary Build 27982 for Insiders

Microsoft has officially rolled out the latest Canary build, version 27982, for Windows Insiders. This build primarily introduces enhancements centered around the Lock Screen, Widgets, and file sharing functionalities, significantly improving user experience. Users can now select which widgets to display on the lock screen, while the Widgets interface has been equipped with multiple dashboards and a new navigation feature. Additionally, the build includes a revamped share tray, enhancing the ease of sharing files across different applications.

Lock Screen Enhancements

The lock screen widget experience has been revamped, replacing the old “Weather and more” section. Users can now easily add, remove, and rearrange widgets such as Weather, Watchlist, and Sports. Suggested widgets are also provided to help users discover new options. For customization, navigate to Settings > Personalization > Lock screen.
Please note that this feature is being gradually released to Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel, and may not be available to all users immediately as feedback will be monitored before a broader rollout.

Widgets Update

The introduction of multiple dashboards for Widgets provides increased space for favorite widgets, allowing for a more personalized content feed.
A newly added left-side navigation bar simplifies the process of switching between different dashboards and accessing views like the Discover feed.

The new drag tray feature significantly simplifies file sharing in Windows. When dragging a file from File Explorer or the desktop, a tray appears at the top of the screen, allowing users to drop files into selected applications or open the Windows share window by selecting “More…”.

Bug Fixes in Build 27982

General Fixes

Addressed a freezing issue with Visio when using an IME.
Resolved an error message for Arm64 PC users that occurred during certain gaming sessions, indicating, “The game has crashed with error code 0x0”.
Fixed a recurring crashing issue involving explorer.exe after prolonged PC usage without rebooting.
Corrected text rendering problems in multiline text boxes across various applications following recent updates.

Insiders may notice unexpected behavior where the Start menu scrolls to the top.

Power and Battery

Investigations are underway regarding sleep and shutdown functionalities not operating as expected for some Insiders after the latest build updates.
