Windows 11 Insider Canary Channel build 27723 introduces file sharing in the search taskbar

Microsoft has unveiled a fresh build of Windows 11, specifically tailored for members of the Windows Insider Program on the Canary Channel, identified as build number 27723. This latest update introduces a new functionality allowing users to share local files directly from the search results within the Windows 11 taskbar search box, alongside various features and enhancements, as well as some acknowledged issues.

Enhancements and Modifications

[General]

[NOTICE] Insider Preview Build Expiration: The expiration date for Insider Preview builds available in the Canary Channel has now been revised to 9/15/2025, commencing with Build 27695. Please ensure that you have updated to the most recent build in this channel.

[Taskbar Search]

The new functionality to share local files directly from the taskbar’s search box results is being gradually rolled out.

[Voice Access Updates]

Enhancements have been made to the spelling and correction features in voice access, now enabling users to dictate characters throughout their entire voice access session. This updated experience facilitates quicker dictation and enhances editing capabilities with command options for selection, deletion, and text navigation.

[Font Additions]

A new simplified Chinese font (Simsun-ExtG) has been introduced, featuring 9,753 ideographs that support Unicode Extensions G, H, and I. Notably, it includes the complex character for Biangbiang noodles. Regarded as one of the most intricate characters in Chinese, it is represented as U+30EDD, as illustrated in the image below. Please note that certain applications may currently struggle to display these newly included extension characters.

[Settings Modifications]

The detach virtual hard disk (VHD/VHDx) functionality that was added under Settings > System > Storage > Disks & Volumes with Build 27686 has been temporarily disabled, starting from Build 27718. We are actively working on restoring this feature in an upcoming build.

Known Issues

[General]

  • [CRITICAL NOTE FOR COPILOT+ PC USERS] Users transitioning to the Canary Channel on new Copilot+ PCs from either the Dev Channel, Release Preview Channel, or retail may experience loss of Windows Hello PIN and biometric sign-in, encountering error 0xd0000225 along with the message “Something went wrong, and your PIN isn’t available” . Users should be able to set up their PIN again by selecting “Set up my PIN” .
  • [NEW] We are currently investigating issues reported concerning certain games such as Microsoft Solitaire & Casual Games crashing upon launch after the installation of build 27718.
  • [NEW] Reports indicate that some Insiders are still encountering rollbacks (error code 0xc190010) while trying to install the latest Canary builds, and we are looking into this.

[Input Issues]

Efforts are underway to resolve the underlying problem that is preventing the Emoji Panel and Clipboard History from functioning properly on specific interfaces, including within the Registry Editor.
