Microsoft Unveils Exciting New Features in Windows 11 Update
This week, Microsoft is making waves with the rollout of a notable Windows 11 update, specifically the Dev build 26120.2415 (KB5046723). This update introduces two major features: Recall and Click to Do, now available for users of compatible Copilot+ PCs. It’s important to note that these features are not compatible with existing x86 hardware.
Key Enhancements in the Latest Build
In addition to Recall and Click to Do, this build includes several enhancements aimed at improving user experience:
Noteworthy Changes and Improvements Available:
- [Windows Hello]
The newly revamped Windows Hello interface is set to reach Insiders in the Dev Channel shortly, having already rolled out for users in the Beta and Canary Channels.- [Narrator]
Enhanced functionalities have been added to the Narrator’s scan mode. Users can now utilize shortcuts such as ‘N’ to skip past links and ‘L’ to navigate directly to lists on web pages or documents. To activate these features, ensure you enable Narrator first (Win + Ctrl + Enter), then switch scan mode ON (Caps Lock + Spacebar).- [Speech in Windows]
Improvements have been made to the speech recognition capabilities, affecting services like Narrator, voice access, and live captions. Users may need to manually update their language files, which will be made available separately via the Microsoft Store.
Bug Fixes Included in the Update
Resolved Issues in the Dev Channel:
- Fixed an issue causing explorer.exe crashes related to taskbar app icons.
- Addressed desktop background display problems across multiple monitors.
- Corrected the File Explorer search box, ensuring it no longer extends outside the window.
- Resolved scrolling issues with Windows wheel devices.
- Fixed a crash issue in Narrator when using certain natural voices.
Known Issues with Recall and Click to Do
Important Considerations:
- Ensure that Secure Boot is enabled to successfully save snapshots with Recall. Here is a support article to assist in enabling Secure Boot.
- It may take some time for snapshots to display. If they do not appear after five minutes, try rebooting your device.
- Recall can be activated or deactivated from the “Turn Windows features on or off” menu. The Recall binaries are currently being cached as testing continues.
- Users may occasionally be notified to “Make sure Recall is saving snapshots,” despite settings indicating that saving is enabled. A reboot may resolve this.
- Websites added as filters might not save correctly if viewed in split screen or sidebar pane in Edge. This is set to improve in a future update.
- To enhance your experience with Recall, ensure Microsoft 365 apps are updated to the latest versions for easy access to your documents.
- Recall may experience compatibility issues with certain accessibility tools currently in use.
