Windows 11 Dev build 26120.2122 introduces taskbar thumbnail enhancements and additional features

This week, Microsoft concludes by releasing two new builds in the Beta and Dev channels, with the Dev channel featuring build 26120.2122 (KB5044374). This latest update brings various enhancements to the taskbar, system tray, Task Manager, window management, and additional features.

Enhancements and Improvements Available in the Dev Channel

[General]

  • This update includes several general enhancements and bug fixes aimed at improving the overall experience for Insiders utilizing this build on their devices.

[Taskbar & System Tray]

  • The taskbar now features updated previews that appear when hovering over applications. Additionally, we have refined the animations for these previews, taking into account feedback from Insiders.

[Task Manager]

  • We’ve revamped the Disconnect and Logoff dialogs within Task Manager to support dark mode and text scaling.
  • The Performance section now clearly labels each disk with its corresponding type.

Fixes Available in the Dev Channel

[Windowing]

  • A resolved issue that occasionally caused screens to turn black for a few seconds when using ALT + Tab.
  • General fixes applied for all users in the Dev Channel.

[General]

  • Addressed an issue that caused some Insiders to encounter error 0x800f0825 while attempting to install the latest builds in the Dev Channel.

[Other]

  • This update resolves the following issues:
  • [Remote Desktop Gateway Service] Resolved an issue where the service would become unresponsive due to remote procedure calls (RPC) via HTTP, leading to client disconnections.

  • This build may fail to install and display error 0x800f0983. If you encounter this error, please try installing again, as it generally succeeds upon retrying. If the installation remains at 0%, please allow it to proceed.

[Start Menu]

  • If you click or tap on a letter in the All Apps list of the Start menu, it may become unresponsive. To resolve this, attempt to reboot or restart explorer.exe.

[Live Captions]

  • [NEW] After the installation of this build, live captions may crash upon usage.
