Microsoft Launches Windows 11 Preview Build 27764 for Insiders
Microsoft has unveiled a new preview build, 27764, for Windows Insiders within the Canary Channel. This update introduces several enhancements across various features, including the Start menu, Dynamic Lighting, and the Narrator tool, among others.
Major Enhancements in Build 27764
The following is an overview of the significant changes and improvements included in this build:
[Start Menu]
- Users can now access jump lists by right-clicking on pinned applications, including commonly used programs like PowerPoint.
[Dynamic Lighting]
- The Dynamic Lighting settings page will display a placeholder when no compatible devices are connected, with controls for brightness and effects disabled.
- Addition of directional options—Forward, Backward, Outward, and Inward—to the Wave effect, along with a Forward option added to the Gradient effect.
[Input]
- The IME toolbar will now be hidden in full-screen mode for users typing in Chinese or Japanese, enhancing the overall experience.
[Narrator]
- Enhancements to Narrator’s scan mode include the ability to skip links (‘N’) and jump to lists (‘L’), providing improved navigation through lengthy documents and web pages. To activate these features, users should enable Narrator first and utilize the new shortcuts.
[Speech in Windows]
- Performance improvements have been made to speech-related functions, affecting Narrator, live captions, and voice typing. Users may need to update their language files, which are available through the Microsoft Store.

- Resolved a bug causing some Insiders to encounter a PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA error during use, which appeared in Build 27754.
[File Explorer]
- Working to alleviate hanging issues in File Explorer when navigating folders containing a high volume of media files.
[Taskbar & System Tray]
- Corrected text overlaps on the taskbar for widgets on secondary monitors in left-aligned configurations.
[Input]
- Fixed a visibility issue where the mouse pointer could become obscured by a black box when pointer trails are enabled.
[Task Manager]
- Adjusted functionality to accurately display HDDs that were incorrectly shown as SSDs in the Performance metrics.

- Addressed lag and screen tearing issues on secondary monitors when using full-screen applications.

- [IMPORTANT NOTE FOR COPILOT+ PCs] Users transitioning to the Canary Channel from other channels may encounter problems with Windows Hello PIN and biometrics, producing the error 0xd0000225. You can recreate your PIN if needed.
- Investigation is ongoing regarding reports of rollbacks, accompanied by error code 0xc190010, during attempts to install the latest Canary builds.
- Efforts are continuing to resolve issues related to accent colors for window borders and shadows, as well as animation inconsistencies despite user settings.
