Windows 11 Build 26200.5518 Introduces New Taskbar Feature and Enhanced File Sharing
The latest update for Windows 11 Insiders in the Dev Channel has arrived with the release of Build 26200.5518. This update introduces several highly anticipated features, including the ability to adjust taskbar icon sizes, along with improvements in file sharing capabilities. It also includes a testing package for the newly announced Quick Machine Recovery (QMR) feature, various bug fixes, and more enhancements.
What’s New in Build 26200.5518?
Here’s a detailed look at the configurations included in this build:
Taskbar Icon Scaling
The new taskbar icon scaling feature is being rolled out to Windows Insiders. This enhancement ensures you maintain quick access to your favorite apps, even when the taskbar is overly populated. As more apps are pinned or opened, icons will automatically adjust to a smaller size, optimizing screen space and improving accessibility. This feature aims to enhance user workflow by minimizing the need to navigate through additional menus.
Options are available to customize how these icons appear:
When taskbar is full: Icons will shrink in size automatically when the taskbar reaches its capacity.
Never: Users can opt to keep icon sizes unchanged irrespective of the number of opened apps.
Always: Users who prefer smaller icons can set them to remain so consistently.
To adjust icon scaling settings, right-click an empty area on the taskbar, select “Taskbar settings, ”then expand the “Taskbar behaviors”section to choose your preferred setting for “Show smaller taskbar buttons.”
Enhanced File Sharing
File sharing on Windows just got a major upgrade thanks to the new drag tray feature. When dragging a local file from File Explorer or your desktop, a convenient tray will appear at the top of your screen. This tray allows you to drop the file into one of the visible apps or select “More…” to access the Windows share window directly.
In response to last week’s introduction of Quick Machine Recovery, we are excited to provide access to the test remediation package for Windows Insiders. Users can now explore the full features of QMR hands-on. The remediation package, “Quick machine recovery update for Windows 11, ” will be installed automatically when “test mode”is activated. To check if the package is installed, navigate to Settings > Windows Update > Update history. Note that visibility of this update in the Windows Update history may roll out gradually within the Beta Channel.
General Changes and Improvements
Additional enhancements include:
The battery icon improvements may temporarily disappear for some Insiders as they are being reintroduced.
A new basic search history feature is in testing for Recall.
In Click to Do, a new action called Ask Copilot allows users to utilize Microsoft Copilot with highlighted text or images directly.
Mouse settings are now more accessible directly under Settings > Accessibility > Mouse, improving user experiences.

Improved Windows Search Fixes
The following fixes for Windows Search have been implemented for Copilot+ PCs:
Resolved an issue that caused semantic search to malfunction for some users until they reboot their PCs.
Graphics and Performance Fixes
Issues with external graphics cards connecting over Thunderbolt not being discoverable have been resolved.
Hyper-V Manager now correctly reports CPU usage for virtual machines in various scenarios.

General Issues
Post-PC reset, some users may find their build version incorrectly displayed as Build 26100.
Quick Assist is currently unavailable for non-administrator users.
Windows Sandbox is not functional in this build but will be addressed in the next update.
Recall and Click to Do Issues
Ensure that Microsoft 365 apps are updated to facilitate smooth functionality with Recall. Notably:
Some users may encounter issues saving snapshots in Recall, and the ability to turn on this setting is currently unavailable.
Click to Do may experience launching issues, and some actions involving image entities might be ineffective until updates are applied.
