Windows 11 25H2 ISO Release Delayed: Download and Installation Not Available Yet

Microsoft Initiates Windows 11 25H2 Rollout for Insiders

Microsoft has officially commenced the rollout of Windows 11 25H2 to the Release Preview channel for Insiders. This predictable timing aligns with the company’s pattern of launching new Windows versions in the September to October timeframe each year. Following this rollout, the update is expected to be available as an optional upgrade for non-Insiders by the end of this month, with full general availability anticipated next month.

Delayed ISO Availability: What Users Need to Know

In addition to the rollout, Microsoft had indicated that users could expect the release of ISOs for Windows 11 25H2 this week. However, in a recent announcement, the company confirmed that the ISOs are not yet ready for distribution. The updated changelog reflects this delay:

[UPDATE 9/4] The ISOs for Windows 11, version 25H2 are delayed and coming soon.

Understanding the Upgrade Process to 25H2

Unlike its predecessor version 24H2, transitioning to Windows 11 25H2 will not involve a complete operating system swap. Instead, this upgrade will resemble the previous transition from Windows 11 22H2 to 23H2. Microsoft plans to deliver the 25H2 update through an enablement package, referred to as an eKB.

Key Features and Performance Enhancements

According to Microsoft, the 25H2 and 24H2 versions “share the same core operating system and identical system files.”As a result, the latest quality update for version 24H2 will incorporate the new features of 25H2, although these will remain inactive until the eKB is installed. This small, quick update acts as a “master switch, ”enabling the upgrade from 24H2 to 25H2 with a single system restart, thus minimizing downtime.

Improvements and New Functionalities

Despite the smooth upgrade process, notable underlying changes are anticipated. For example, enhancements to drivers could bring significant improvements. Furthermore, there are indications that Microsoft is advancing towards leveraging AI capabilities in future updates.

New Features in Windows 11 25H2

Microsoft has highlighted several new features that will be introduced in Windows 11 25H2, including innovative methods for managing pre-installed Microsoft Store applications as well as the removal of outdated features such as PowerShell 2.0. These enhancements promise to improve user experience while simplifying system management.
