Following his iconic role as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Tom Holland is poised to embark on an exciting new journey with a starring role in Christopher Nolan’s forthcoming film at Universal Studios. Although specifics about Holland’s character remain under wraps, this venture will mark his inaugural collaboration with the esteemed director.
In addition to Holland’s role, he will also share the screen with renowned actor Matt Damon in this major cinematic project. Damon’s previous partnerships with Nolan include the acclaimed films Interstellar and Oppenheimer, making this his third collaboration with the award-winning filmmaker. The Hollywood Reporter was among the first to break the news of Holland’s casting.
While the plot details of Nolan’s next film are yet to be disclosed, reports suggest it won’t be set in contemporary times. A rumor reported by Gizmodo hinted that this mysterious project could be a Vampire-themed movie set in the 1920s, though it is wise to approach this speculation cautiously.
Christopher Nolan’s eagerly awaited film featuring Matt Damon and Tom Holland is slated to begin production next year. This is another partnership with Universal Studios, following their successful collaboration on Oppenheimer, which garnered Nolan the Oscar for Best Director and also won the Best Picture award.
This upcoming collaboration with Universal follows Nolan’s split from Warner Bros. Pictures, which occurred amid the backlash surrounding the release of Tenet. The current release date for Nolan’s upcoming film is set for July 17, 2026.
Tom Holland Set for Spider-Man 4 and Avengers: Doomsday
2024 promises to be an action-packed year for Tom Holland. Along with his significant role in Christopher Nolan’s latest feature, he is also preparing to manage filming for both Spider-Man 4 and Avengers: Doomsday.
Though Spider-Man 4 has not yet been assigned a release date, Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, with Holland reprising his role as Peter Parker / Spider-Man in both films.
The latest news on Spider-Man 4 indicates that director Destin Daniel Cretton has officially joined the project. The screenplay will be crafted by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, who previously worked on Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Filming for Avengers: Doomsday is expected to coincide with Spider-Man 4. The film will see the Russo Brothers return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Robert Downey Jr. is set to reprise his role as well, this time taking on the character of Doctor Doom. The Russo Brothers will also be directing Avengers: Secret Wars in the near future.
While information about both upcoming projects remains tightly sealed, Tom Holland is confirmed to be a part of Avengers: Doomsday for the time being. Following actor Jonathan Majors’ acquittal in a domestic abuse trial, Marvel Studios decided to refocus on Doctor Doom instead of Kang the Conqueror as the central antagonist of the Multiverse Saga.
