Things took a dramatic turn on The Traitors recently, where Bob the Drag Queen found himself in a heated moment as he fought to stay in the competition. In a surprising twist, Bob attempted to drag Zac Efron into the fray—despite the fact that Zac is not a contestant; rather, his brother is.
Dylan Efron, featured on the show, is best known for his role alongside Zac in Down to Earth. When Boston Rob called out Bob’s name, Dylan didn’t hold back. He commented on how he grew up with an actor and thus has a good sense of genuine performances, insinuating that Bob the Drag Queen’s abilities were lacking. Bob, however, quickly retorted that Dylan’s brother was not a talented actor, sparking a reaction from Dolores Catania of The Real Housewives of New Jersey, who jumped to Zac’s defense, asserting his skills as an actor. It’s worth noting that Zac was completely uninvolved in this altercation.
To clarify, I found myself quite offended on Zac Efron’s behalf. The dismissive remarks regarding his acting abilities overlooked many of his commendable performances, the best of which seem to be forgotten in this discourse. When Bob dubbed him a poor actor, it triggered a reaction from me, and I couldn’t help but feel defensive from the comfort of my own living room.
Perhaps Bob the Drag Queen should catch The Iron Claw
Even if you’re not a fan of High School Musical or other blockbuster hits like Neighbors, it’s essential to acknowledge Zac Efron’s award-worthy portrayal of Kevin Von Erich in the A24 film The Iron Claw. This film is an exceptional piece of cinema that deserves far more recognition than it has received.
The Iron Claw chronicles the true story of the Von Erich wrestling family while respectfully avoiding some of the more painful details of their lives. It highlights their struggles and tragic losses, culminating in a deeply poignant moment as Zac’s character reflects, “I used to be a brother.” Watching that scene was heart-wrenching, leaving a lasting impression. The assertion from Bob the Drag Queen that Zac isn’t a competent actor feels baffling in light of such powerful performances.
The exchange may have been part of the game’s strategy, but dragging Zac Efron into the conversation was unwarranted. Dylan Efron had a valid point, and I sincerely hope that now that Bob is out of Alan Cumming’s residence, he will take the time to watch The Iron Claw and join the multitude of fans advocating for Zac’s recognition—many believe he deserved at least an Oscar nomination for his role.
