Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew
Though the Star Wars Onyx Cinder set launched in August, I opted to build it only after completing the Skeleton Crew series. This model, inspired by a storied pirate ship from the show, stands as the exclusive LEGO set tied to the recent Star Wars release. There are many facets to appreciate about this engaging build and its captivating cast of minifigures that reflect the show’s young characters.
Launched on August 1, 2024, LEGO’s The Onyx Cinder (75374) hit store shelves a mere four months prior to the series’ debut in December. Consequently, the minifigures packaged with this set offered fans their initial glimpse of characters like Neel, Fern, KB, Wim, and Jude Law’s enigmatic “Jedi”pirate, Jod Na Nawood. Post-viewing of Skeleton Crew, my appreciation for the new LEGO lineup was significantly enhanced, allowing me to experience the ship in its narrative context. This is a detailed review of LEGO’s The Onyx Cinder (75374), exploring its distinctive features and intricately designed minifigures.

At a price point of $140, LEGO’s The Onyx Cinder (75374) is reasonably valued considering its extensive piece count. The model features five minifigures, prominently displayed on the box art alongside the ship soaring past a moon. The reverse side of the packaging showcases the ship with its cargo doors ajar, having landed in the mystical forests of At Attin, the young crew’s secretive home renowned for its legendary “endless treasure,”which becomes a focal point for several pirates in the series.
With a total of 1,325 pieces distributed across 13 bags, I was able to assemble The Onyx Cinder (75374) in just under two hours at a relaxed pace. While the set does include a sticker sheet, it features a manageable number of stickers to apply. The build process is generally straightforward but incorporates uniquely asymmetrical elements that keep builders engaged.

Multiple Unique Play Features and Highly Detailed Minifigures

This model incorporates a variety of turrets featuring stud shooters and the distinct domed turrets that Wim and Fern utilize in their confrontations with New Republic X-Wing fighters when they initially doubt Jod’s trustworthiness. The level of detail in the minifigures is commendable; each character has patches reminiscent of their homeworld, which the owl-like Kh’ymm uses to identify At Attin’s location. Additionally, Jod’s minifigure captures his essence perfectly and is equipped with a flintlock pistol, though I couldn’t resist enhancing him with a gold-hilted lightsaber, reminiscent of the one he acquires from Wim in episode 5 of Skeleton Crew.

Expect Limited Future Skeleton Crew Sets…

Had I constructed this set in August, my appreciation for its subtle details would have been lacking. For collectors deliberating a purchase, now might be the best time to acquire this set, given that it is likely the only Skeleton Crew model LEGO will release for the foreseeable future. With the second season of Skeleton Crew yet to be officially confirmed and the show receiving mixed reviews, this set’s availability may be limited.
I wholeheartedly recommend LEGO’s The Onyx Cinder (75374). It stands out as an impressive Star Wars ship, boasting a delightful array of characters, especially Neel with his charm and KB with her visor and impressive cybernetic augmentations.
