Gabriel Macht’s recent remarks regarding his role as Harvey Specter have seemingly dashed my hopes for a much-anticipated revival of Suits. Originally premiering in 2011, this legal drama by Aaron Korsh captivated audiences throughout its nine-season run at USA Network, amassing a dedicated fan base. Surprisingly, it wasn’t until 2023 that Suits experienced a resurgence in popularity, becoming a streaming phenomenon on platforms like Netflix and Peacock. This sparked renewed discussions about revisiting the franchise, and although Korsh was initially reluctant, NBC ultimately persuaded him to explore further opportunities.
As a long-time viewer since its debut on USA Network, I shared a fondness for both Suits and Jeff Eastin’s White Collar. Having been among the first to cover Suits on Screen Rant, I was taken aback by its sudden popularity surge in 2023. Regardless of whether you are a new fan or have been with the show from the beginning, its strength undoubtedly lay in its remarkable ensemble cast. While the upcoming spinoff, Suits: LA, attempts to revive the franchise, it is not the revival I envisioned.
Gabriel Macht’s Intentions Regarding Acting
Macht’s Guest Appearance to Support the Spinoff

While the conclusion of Suits may not have been particularly strong, the initial seasons were undeniably addictive. The dynamic between Mike Ross and Harvey Specter, highlighted by the tagline “Two Lawyers, One Degree, ”created undeniable chemistry. Each core character brought something unique to the table, something I miss in today’s television landscape. Although Harvey is set to return for a multi-episode arc in Suits: LA, which offers a glimmer of hope for the franchise’s future, Macht’s comments have significantly impacted my optimism:
I’m just doing it for the fans. I’m not doing it for me. I’ve done it 134 times. I had very little interest in coming back to work as an actor right now because I spent so much time [doing it] and this was my time to really raise my kids and to do this creative stuff like Bear Fight.
… [if there was] a way to do this where it made sense for my family, it made sense for the timing and if there was a way that I could sort of pass the baton to Stephen [Amell] and the cast in L. A.If I [could have] anything to do with helping support the show and getting it off [the ground], it’s almost like [giving] a blessing.
In Suits: LA, Harvey’s appearance is intended to link the spinoff to the original series as he assists an old friend with a complex issue. Though it seems he currently resides in Seattle with Donna, Mike, and Rachel, managing a smaller clinic, providing updates about their lives would be a thrilling addition. Seeing these beloved couples reunited on-screen is a prospect fans cherish.
Macht’s Position Makes a True Sequel Unlikely
The Absence of Harvey Limits Revival Potential

As I look forward to Suits: LA‘s premiere, it’s clear that many fans, including myself, are still yearning for a genuine sequel to Suits. Referring to it as season 10 might not be entirely accurate, considering it won’t center around the traditional setting of Pearson Hardman’s New York office. A follow-up series featuring Mike and Harvey working together in Seattle would be ideal for those of us who fell in love with the original ensemble. Though Meghan Markle’s departure from acting eliminates Rachel’s return, the possibility of a reunion with the other key characters remains enticing.
However, a sequel without Harvey Specter feels incomplete. While Mike Ross and Harvey Specter shared the main lead, a revival lacking their partnership wouldn’t resonate with the core essence of the show. The distinctive dynamic that attracted audiences, especially in their battles against common adversaries, is what fans are eager to see revitalized. If Macht is indeed stepping away from acting, it may effectively shut the door on the longed-for return of the Suits universe.
The Continued Need for a Genuine Suits Revival
A Reunion of Original Characters is Essential

Given that Suits: LA comes from the original show’s creator, I’m optimistic about the direction it may take. Although previous spinoff attempts, such as Gina Torres’ Pearson, were cancelled by NBC after just one season, it’s worth noting that those efforts were helmed by a different creative team. Regardless of the outcome of Suits: LA, the call for a reunion featuring most of the original characters remains strong among fans.
It is my hope that once the writer and producer devise a compelling narrative for a Suits sequel, Macht might reconsider his current hiatus from acting. Viewers, who have fallen for the ensemble through streaming, deserve a proper closure that encapsulates their journey. Even without a complex plot, a limited series featuring Harvey and Mike in Seattle could effectively complete their arc. Let’s stay hopeful that a fitting sequel narrative emerges, prompting Macht and the original cast to reunite for a long-awaited return.
