Why SNL 50 is Not Airing Tonight and When It Will Return

This Saturday night, while NBC may not broadcast live from New York, excitement remains high for the upcoming 50th anniversary season of Saturday Night Live. The last episode before the holiday break aired on December 21, featuring Martin Short as the host alongside Hozier as the musical guest. This landmark season is set to showcase a mix of comedy veterans like Nate Bargatze, John Mulaney, and Chris Rock, alongside pop stars such as Ariana Grande and Charli XCX, who will step into hosting roles and share their talents.

The cast for this monumental season reflects a mix of seasoned performers and fresh talent, marking a significant transformation from previous years. Key players like Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, and Pete Davidson departed after season 47, paving the way for emerging stars such as Andrew Dismukes, Chloe Fineman, Heidi Gardner, Ego Nwodim, and Bowen Yang to shine. Season 50 introduces even more promising comedians, including Marcello Hernandez, James Austin Johnston, Michael Longfellow, Sarah Sherman, and Devon Walker, contributing to a dynamic ensemble.

Fans are hopeful that sports stars might also make an appearance in 2025, given the absence of athletes since Travis Kelce guest-hosted in season 48.
