Why is Paul Heyman getting inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in Philadelphia? The legend reveals it himself
On April 5 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, the WWE Hall of Fame will induct Paul Heyman, a wrestling icon. His significant contributions to the pro wrestling industry, including his management of stars like Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar, and CM Punk, will be recognized during the ceremony.
The 58-year-old will be making a poignant comeback to Philadelphia, a city closely associated with the outspoken New Yorker. He was the innovative mind behind ECW (Extreme Championship Wrestling), which was headquartered in the City of Brotherly Love.
During an interview with NBC sports anchor John Clark, Paul Heyman discussed his WWE Hall of Fame induction and confessed that he couldn’t refuse the opportunity in his hometown of Philadelphia.
“It’s WrestleMania 40. It’s in Philly, birthplace of ECW. It would be disrespectful to what we started in Philly with ECW if I didn’t accept it in Philly.”
Despite declaring bankruptcy in April 2001, ECW was renowned for its hardcore wrestling style, featuring notable names like Rob Van Dam, Tommy Dreamer, and Sabu. Heyman played a crucial role in the narrative of the Land of Extreme.
Ever since Paul Heyman brought his creative wisdom to WWE, he has held various roles, including that of SmackDown’s General Manager. Now, he serves as Reigns’ Wiseman, and even as a Hall of Fame inductee, he continues to be met with thousands of fans chanting ‘ECW’ whenever he visits Philly with his Tribal Chief.
Paul Heyman to be Inducted into WWE Hall of Fame by Roman Reigns
The WWE Universe has been speculating about who would have the honor of inducting Paul Heyman into the WWE Hall of Fame, considering his past and present alliances. He played a vital role in managing Brock Lesnar for several years and was instrumental in CM Punk’s rise in the Stamford-based company.
Despite The Rock’s plans to induct Heyman, it was officially announced on this week’s Monday Night RAW that Roman Reigns will have the privilege of doing so. The reigning WWE Universal Champion explained to The Rock that he had to excuse himself in order to work on his speech.
Informed by Heyman, the WWE Universe was made aware of the fourth wall being broken.
“For those of you who don’t understand what you’ve just learned is that The Tribal Chief will induct me into the Hall of Fame this Friday.”
Reigns has reached day 1308 of his record-breaking reign as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, with Heyman by his side for much of the journey. The former ECW star has played a crucial role in molding The Head of the Table into the villainous character he is today.
Despite facing some challenges, including Reigns firing Heyman in 2021 during a feud with Lesnar, the duo has maintained a strong relationship. Fans can expect to hear more about their close bond from The Tribal Chief at the upcoming WWE Hall of Fame ceremony.
