“Why is He Still Following Diddy?” – Reactions from Netizens on Drake Unfollowing Kendrick Lamar, LeBron James, Playboi Carti, and Others
On October 1, Drake went on a significant unfollowing spree on social media. Observant fans quickly noted that the Canadian rapper severed ties with several high-profile celebrities, including Kendrick Lamar, LeBron James, DeMar DeRozan, Metro Boomin, Joe Budden, and Playboi Carti.
This decision wasn’t particularly shocking, given the recent tension between Drake and these celebrities, largely influenced by his ongoing rap rivalry with Kendrick Lamar. Many of those unfollowed had publicly supported Lamar during the feud, despite having previously maintained amicable relationships with Drizzy.
Interestingly, some fans expressed surprise that Drake was still following Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs in light of his recent legal issues. Combs has been arrested on charges related to “s*x trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution”and is currently in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center.
Many were left questioning why Drake did not remove Combs from his follow list during this recent social media cleanup.
“WTF I mean maybe he hasn’t gotten to him yet……”one person theorized.
“Everyone but Diddy…?”another person questioned.
Others were astounded that Drake continued to follow Lamar despite their ongoing feud.
“He was still following Kendrick this whole time? Lmao and Joe? ??”one person tweeted.
“The fact that he was still following half these people is so funny to me,”another person added.
“Why was he following Kendrick in the first place,”someone else commented.
Some fans speculated whether this indicated that new music could be on the horizon from the 6 God crooner.
“Maybe a new album drop? Or just some personal spring cleaning? Either way, it’s bound to stir up some chatter!”one fan tweeted.
“Warning the opps before he drops music on their head top,”someone else added.
Examining Drake’s Unfollow of LeBron James and Others
Drake’s recent rap battle with Kendrick Lamar generated considerable buzz within the music industry. Many celebrities chose sides during this feud, with a notable number siding with Lamar. The general consensus from the public crowned Lamar as the winner after his hit track, Not Like Us, was released.
The feud between Lamar and Drake has been building for more than a decade, and it has affected many who were once on good terms with Drake. Metro Boomin, whose song Like That sparked the rap battle, had collaborated with Drake on a joint album with Future.
However, their friendship deteriorated recently, with Metro actively promoting the rap battle on social media. Metro Boomin even released a diss beat titled BBL Drizzy for amateur rappers. Oddly, while Drake unfollowed Metro, he chose not to unfollow Future, who also collaborated on Like That.
LeBron James and DeMar DeRozan were present at Kendrick Lamar’s performance, where he showcased many of his diss tracks aimed at Drake. DeRozan was also featured in the video for Not Like Us. Previously, Drake had a close friendship with both basketball stars, even getting a tattoo of James on his arm.
Drake shares a long history of conflict with Joe Budden as well, dating back to their diss track exchanges in 2016. Their rivalry was reignited when Budden criticized Drake’s 2023 album, For All The Dogs.
A surprising name on the unfollow list was Playboi Carti, as there were no known public disputes between the two artists. They had recently collaborated on the track No Face, which was previewed on social media in August 2024, although the final release omitted Carti’s participation.
