“Why is he so attention seeking”: NBA fans berate LeBron James for sparking retirement talks again
Speculation about LeBron James’ retirement was once again reignited following the LA Lakers’ dominant 116-104 victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday. The basketball star delivered an impressive performance, scoring 40 points and matching his career-high of nine 3-pointers out of 10 attempts. He also demonstrated his all-around skills by shooting 13 of 17 from the field, grabbing seven rebounds, and dishing out five assists.
Despite his impressive performance in his 21st season, James stated to reporters that he has no intention of remaining in the NBA for much longer, in response to a question about his retirement plans from a journalist.
“Not very long. … I’m not gonna play another 21 years, that’s for damn sure. But not very long. I don’t know when that door will close as far as when I’ll retire. But I don’t have much time left.”
Despite the Lakers’ 4-0 loss to the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference finals, James remained in the spotlight as he announced his potential departure from the team following their playoff exit. However, a few months later at the ESPYs, he surprised many by reversing his decision and confirming his return for the upcoming season.
Despite James providing another ambiguous response about his future in the NBA, fans were not pleased after interpreting it as a ploy for attention from the Lakers star. A fan on X, previously known as Twitter, wrote the following:
“Why is he so attention seeking… we get it”

LeBron James’ Injury History: Impacts on His Performance
Despite the fact that LeBron James has openly expressed his desire to either play alongside or against his son, Bronny James, in the NBA, it is uncertain if Bronny will have a successful career in the league or if he will even be eligible for the draft next year. Additionally, LeBron’s health continues to be a concern at this point in his career.
Despite having made 64 appearances, he has been plagued by injuries for a significant portion of the season. Most of these injuries have been non-contact related, similar to the one he is currently dealing with, and are not expected to fully heal until his offseason begins.
Since January, LeBron James has been dealing with a left ankle peroneal tendinopathy injury, causing his status for each game to be uncertain. As a result, he has been absent for seven out of the 10 games due to this ailment.
Since the 2019-20 season, he has been plagued by injuries which have resulted in him playing less than 60 games every season, except for the 2019-20 season when he was able to play a few games in the “Orlando Bubble”after a four-month hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Despite his desire to rest frequently this season, it is probable that LeBron James would have chosen to do so. Unfortunately, the Lakers’ supporting players have not been able to stay healthy, and the team is once again experiencing a rollercoaster year. Additionally, with the fifth opportunity for a championship closing in on James, he may have felt compelled to push through his injuries.
