“Why did he wait 5 weeks”: Knicks fans puzzled as insider reports Julius Randle re-injured shoulder in contact practice
Despite their strong performance with Julius Randle as a key player, the New York Knicks were dealt a devastating blow when the All-Star forward made the decision to undergo season-ending surgery for a dislocated shoulder. As a result, their potential in the playoffs is now limited without Randle on the court.
Randle was unable to provide a return timetable for several weeks. However, he had the potential to return a few weeks earlier. There were reports that Randle had advanced to full contact training. Unfortunately, he encountered another setback during his reconditioning, which caused him to contemplate surgery rather than pushing himself to return to the court prematurely.
As reported by TNT’s Chris Haynes, Randle informed him via text message that he had re-injured his shoulder during a full-contact practice five weeks ago.
“I want everyone to know I did everything in my power to get back…That’s why I didn’t opt for surgery when it happened…What caused me to finally go thru w/ surgery was ~5 weeks ago, I went thru a full-contact session & re-injured my shoulder…”
Despite Knicks fans’ dismay over the recent news of Julius Randle’s choice to undergo surgery that would end his season, some questioned the delay in his decision as he had reinjured himself five weeks prior. Here’s a comment from X user @mikedorb1:
“Why did he wait 5 weeks to make the decision?”
At the same time, @Paradox_EP expressed disappointment with the delayed decision, mentioning its potential impact on his fantasy team.
“Yeah my fantasy team would’ve liked to have known this five weeks ago.”
While @vintagelarrywu shared a common sentiment, the X user specifically praised Randle’s efforts, stating:
“I love him for trying but why not shut it down after the contact didn’t go well?”
@Juandabocker publicly criticized the Knicks’ medical team for providing inaccurate information in regards to the injury updates for multiple players, such as Julius Randle, Mitchell Robinson, and Josh Hart.
“So let me get this right: Randle re-injured shoulder in practice, OG re-aggravates elbow 2nd game back, Mitchy re-aggravates able 2nd game back. Seems like this medical staff sucks. I seriously hope this is something that gets addressed. I want answers.”
Knicks Remain Tight-Lipped on Latest Report About Julius Randle’s Recovery Status
Approximately 10 days ago, Tom Thibodeau reassured reporters that Julius Randle was making progress in his recovery and had not experienced any setbacks. As the evaluation date for his return neared, there were concerns about the NBA All-Star’s readiness. Thibodeau consistently stated that Randle had not been given permission to engage in contact drills, contradicting reports from Chris Haynes claiming otherwise.
“No set-back. Just has to keep working at it and you never know when it turns,”Thibodeau said.
The Knicks have also chosen not to respond to Randle’s alleged disclosure to Chris Haynes regarding his shoulder injury setback five weeks ago.
