“Why Did BTS Jin’s Cliffhanger End in a ‘Kidnapping’? Fans React to j-hope’s Ride Request Revelation

On October 23, 2024, BIGHIT MUSIC unveiled a behind-the-scenes video featuring BTS member Kim Seok-jin, also known as Jin, as he eagerly went to greet j-hope following the latter’s military discharge. The video, aptly titled “j-hope Reunites with Jin at the Discharge Ceremony!”, made its debut on the official BTS YouTube channel, BANGTANTV.

During a Weverse livestream on September 21, 2024, Jin amused fans with a lighthearted admission about his intentions to “kidnap”j-hope on the day of his return from service. Expressing how much he had missed his younger bandmate, he said:

“My plan is to kidnap Hobi as soon as he is discharged. I will take him directly to the Run Jin filming location.”

This playful statement caused an uproar among ARMY, the devoted BTS fanbase, leading many to share bursts of laughter and joy on social media. When j-hope officially returned from the military on October 17, 2024, fans joked about Jin’s supposed plan to carry out the “kidnapping” and whisk him away to the filming site as promised.

However, after addressing reporters outside the base, j-hope was spotted getting into a different car, prompting fans to speculate about the failure of Jin’s kidnapping scheme. The BANGTANTV release later illustrated that j-hope originally wished to travel in the same vehicle with Jin but ultimately decided against it.

This moment went viral, sparking plenty of humorous reactions on X (formerly Twitter). One fan commented:

“Why did this end in a cliffhanger? The last thing here is 2seok wanting to ride together and managers agreeing, so why did they end up getting into separate vans? What did Hobi see???”

Fans noted that Jin’s comedic “kidnapping”plot seemed to have gone awry despite j-hope initially wanting to share the ride with him.

“We thought Jin was trying to kidnap Hobi here, but the whole time it was just 2seok wanting to ride together. THEY’RE SO CUTE,”wrote a fan.

“That moment when Jin tried to persuade j-hope to join him in the car for the ‘kidnapping’ – nice try, though!”another fan said.

“It’s hilarious the way Hobi asks, can I ride with Jin? Like, mate, you’re a globally cherished superstar, do what you want!”one more fan added.

Many others expressed their joy at seeing Jin travel for three hours just to welcome j-hope home.

“Jin going to pick up his Hobi is the most precious sight you will ever witness!”wrote a fan.

“I’m disappointed we couldn’t capture this for Jin’s return since filming wasn’t allowed for other members, yet I’m so excited that we have return Bangtan bombs to look forward to,”another remarked.

“It’s bittersweet that they could film this moment, given that no other enlisted member was present,”another shared.

Jin Welcomed j-hope from the Military Base while Other Members were Unable to Attend

Jin made his way to the Wonju military base to meet j-hope, eliciting an uproar among fans online as Jin knelt holding microphones for him. BTS’ j-hope spoke to the gathered reporters, bowing as a sign of respect.

According to a report from Billboard, j-hope expressed heartfelt gratitude to his supporters for their encouragement during his 18 months of service in the South Korean military. He stated:

“Thanks to the fans, I was able to finish it [military service] safely, with good health. What I’ve felt for the past year-and-a-half is that many soldiers are working hard, dedicating themselves, and doing so much to protect the country,” j-hope said.

He went on to share:

“During my 18 months of military service, I held duties as an instructor and engaged in a lot of marching, which gave me the chance to meet many residents of Wonju. I sincerely thank the citizens who welcomed and cheered for the soldiers. It was truly heartwarming,”

In related news, Jin is gearing up to release his debut solo album, titled Happy, on November 15, 2024.
