“Whose Funeral is the Focus?” – Exploring Fan Theories on SEVENTEEN’s ‘Eyes on You’ MV That Captivated the Internet

SEVENTEEN is trending across social media platforms following the release of their music video for “Eyes on You.”On October 20, 2024, PLEDIS Entertainment unveiled the eagerly anticipated visuals for this B-side track from their 12th mini album, “SPILL THE FEELS,”on YouTube.

The music video for “Eyes on You”highlights a lively atmosphere as the members celebrate on a rooftop. In contrast, it also dives into more somber themes, featuring scenes such as a funeral, Mingyu’s unfortunate accident, and Vernon parting with his significant other, among others.

The nonlinear storytelling of the music video left many fans, known as CARATs, somewhat puzzled. As a result, the fandom began to formulate various theories regarding the deeper message of the video. A number of netizens speculated that the narrative suggested a theme of mutual support among the members in challenging times.

“Whose funeral are they all attending?”a fan inquired.

“Woozi, who appears to be enjoying the party, has lost someone dear to him (he is shown at the funeral). He’s trying to let go and move forward,”a fan commented.

“The narrative concerning Woozi seems tied to losing someone important. The funeral scene may indicate he’s reminiscing, suggesting that he’s entered the 5th stage of grief—acceptance—and is ready to embrace life again,”another fan added.

Fans also speculated that the plot of SEVENTEEN’s “Eyes on You”might pay homage to the film “I Origins.”

“One user suggested that the music video seems to nod to ‘I Origins’, a sci-fi romance film focused on recognizing past lives through irises. The title ‘Eyes on You’ bears resemblance to this film,”an X user explained.

“Essentially, the ‘Eyes on You’ music video acts as a tribute to ‘I Origins,’ encapsulating a story of powerful and unwavering love, vowing to reconnect despite death’s separation. The party scenes reflect the joyful moments preceding loss,”another user elaborated.

“Considering that several members bear scars, it may link to the phrase ‘give me your first scar,’ which symbolizes wanting to understand someone’s significant experiences or emotional wounds, highlighting the profound bond among them,”remarked a fan.

Numerous other theories pertaining to the “Eyes on You”narrative surfaced, alluding to the strong camaraderie and support shared among the members.

“Each member faces their own trials, yet they find joy in one another’s company. Regardless of the circumstances, they will always support and love one another,”a fan stated.

“I’m inclined to think that this serves as a prelude to ‘Love, Money, Fame,’ where the boys convey that love transcends material wealth; the theme of their brotherly love appears to resonate through the scenes in the ‘Eyes on You’ MV,” a user commented on X.

“In essence, each member grappling with personal challenges has another closely monitoring them,”another user added.
