Is Cillian Murphy a Zombie in 28 Years Later?
For fans of the zombie genre, one burning question has dominated conversations in recent days: Is Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy set to portray a zombie in the upcoming film 28 Years Later? This speculation seems plausible, especially considering that a considerable gap has passed since the original flick 28 Days Later debuted back in 2004. As many recall, Murphy’s character, Jim, was left in a perilous situation in a zombie-ravaged Britain, leading some to wonder if he has succumbed to the infection. Furthermore, the ghastly creature glimpsed in the recent trailer bears a striking resemblance to him. So, could Jim have transformed into one of the undead? The suspense is palpable.
The Truth Behind the Zombie
However, recent revelations suggest that Murphy may not be the zombified character after all. As detailed by The Guardian, the actor seen in the trailer is, in fact, a different individual. The publication identifies him as Angus Neill, an art dealer and model who was personally selected by director Danny Boyle to play the role of the “Emaciated Zombie.”Neill elaborated on his casting experience, stating, “Danny told me he’d always had me in mind for the role. We met up, hit it off, and I agreed to take part. Working with him on the film was incredibly intense.”
Angus Neill: Rising Star
Neill, represented by Ugly Models, an agency renowned for sourcing distinctive talents for character roles, has a promising future ahead. Recently, the agency’s Instagram hinted that he appeared in a music video by Katie Gregson-MacLeod last year. With his participation in 28 Years Later, Neill will be sharing the screen with notable actors including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, and Ralph Fiennes, positioning him for a significant career boost as this movie is anticipated to become a major talking point in 2025.
Murphy’s Possible Involvement
So, does this definitively rule out Cillian Murphy’s involvement in the film? Not necessarily. In an interview with Collider in 2023, Murphy expressed a keen interest in returning for 28 Years Later, indicating he “would love” the chance. This fuels speculation, especially as reports and photos have surfaced showing him on set. The Whitehaven News captured images of Murphy filming in a field in September, also linking the project to 28 Years Later. Whether he will feature as a minor cameo or a more substantial presence remains unclear, but one thing is certain: Jim is unlikely to be one of the undead.
