Who won the Alex Pereira fight? How ‘Poatan’ performed in quest to become a two-weight champion at UFC 295

Alex Pereira has achieved more in his seven UFC fights than many fighters do in their entire MMA careers.

Having fully committed to MMA in 2020 after a successful kickboxing career, Pereira quickly rose through the ranks and earned a middleweight title shot in only his fourth UFC fight against old foe Israel Adesanya. Despite a comeback TKO victory in the fifth round, Pereira would ultimately lose the belt in his next bout and move up to the light heavyweight division shortly after.

In his first fight at 205 pounds, Pereira was victorious against former divisional champion Jan Blachowicz by unanimous decision, positioning himself for a potential second belt only two years after joining the UFC.

Alex Pereira’s UFC debut: A knockout win that exceeded all expectations

Despite facing tough competition, Alex Pereira solidified his status as a two-division UFC champion with a knockout victory against Jiri Prochazka at the main event of UFC 295. It is undeniable that he is among the most accomplished combat athletes in history.

In a mere two years, Pereira has made a lasting impression on the world of MMA, which is unlikely to be duplicated. Within seven UFC fights, Pereira has secured two title wins and four overall triumphs against previous champions. Furthermore, he put an end to the second-longest title reign in middleweight history and joined the ranks of only seven other fighters in the organization’s history to hold championship status in two divisions.

The defeat against Prochazka marked ‘BJP’s’ first loss since 2015, breaking his previous 13-fight winning streak.

Alex Pereira set to defend light heavyweight championship against Jamahal Hill at UFC 300

Alex Pereira, who earned his second UFC belt five months ago, is now preparing for his first title defense as a UFC champion. He will face off against Jamahal Hill, a former champion, in the main event of UFC 300.

After claiming the vacant belt left behind by Jiri Prochazka at UFC 283 by defeating Pereira’s close friend and head coach Glover Teixeira, Hill was unable to defend his title due to an Achilles heel injury. As a result, ‘Poatan’ was able to take the opportunity and reclaim his former throne.

On April 13, Hill will make his comeback less than a year after his injury in an attempt to regain his former title as divisional champion.

Pereira will face off against Prochazka for the second time in a row, with Prochazka being a former opponent of Teixeira whom he had previously defeated at UFC 275. With UFC 300 approaching, Pereira is currently the favored bet, a trend that has been consistent in four of his seven UFC fights.
