“Who is this person, wow, she’s cute, she has a nice figure, good hair”- When Andre Agassi recalled looking at a picture of his own teenage self

Andre Agassi recalled a time when he saw a picture of himself as a teenager and mistakenly thought he was a girl.

In 1999, Agassi had a remarkable year, claiming two Grand Slam titles, with his second victory being at the US Open.

Despite being seeded second at the tournament, the American secured a spot in the final by defeating Nicklas Kulti, Axel Pretzsch, Justin Gimelstob, Arnaud Clement, Nicolas Escude, and Yevgeny Kafelnikov. In the championship match, he went up against his fellow countryman Todd Martin, who was seeded seventh, and emerged victorious in a closely-fought battle with a score of 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-7(2), 6-3, 6-2, earning his fifth Grand Slam title.

During his post-match press conference, Agassi was questioned about his thoughts on his own growth and development throughout the years. In response, the American shared that he had recently been shown an image of himself at 16 years old and initially thought it was a picture of a girl.

Initially, Agassi believed that he was cute and had a nice figure and good hair, but soon realized that the picture was of himself.

“For starters, somebody showed me a picture recently of when I was like 16 years old. In the picture, it was asked to me, ‘Who is this person?’ I looked at it. I said, ‘Wow, she’s cute. She has a nice figure, very narrow hips, nice legs, long, good hair.’ All of a sudden I went, ‘Wow, that was me.’ I’ve changed a lot. I don’t quite have the hair anymore,”Agassi said.
