Shawn Mendes Speaks Out: His Thoughts on Sexuality
Shawn Mendes made headlines after sharing his views on sexuality during his recent concert in Colorado. Footage from the show captured him expressing:
“Since I was really young, there’s been this thing about my sexuality and people have been talking about it for so long. I think it’s silly because I think sexuality is such a beautifully complex thing, and it’s so hard to just put into boxes.”
“It always felt like such an intrusion on something very personal to me, something that I was figuring out in myself, something that I had yet to discover.”
Mendes conveyed that he now feels more at ease expressing himself, admitting there are times he is unsure, while at other times he feels more certain of his identity.
This is not the first instance Mendes has discussed his sexuality. The artist, who previously had a public relationship with Camila Cabello, expressed his frustrations regarding those closest to him questioning his sexuality during a 2020 interview on Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard:
“You want to say, ‘I’m not gay, but if it’d be fine if I was gay. But also, there’s nothing wrong with being gay, but I’m not. You don’t really know how to respond to this situation.”
In the meantime, Shawn Mendes is gearing up for the release of his self-titled LP set to launch on November 15.
