Where to Watch Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 5 – Streaming Service Guide
The fifth season of Star Trek: Lower Decks marks the concluding chapter of this beloved spinoff within the Star Trek franchise. Fans can look forward to the season’s exclusive premiere on Paramount+ on Monday, October 28, 2024, with the first two episodes debuting simultaneously.
Continuing the narrative established in previous seasons, Star Trek: Lower Decks season 5 will once again center around the junior officers of the USS Cerritos, a starship that the Federation views as one of its lesser mission priorities. This season is brought to life by various production entities including CBS Eye Animation Productions, Important Science, Secret Hideout, Roddenberry Entertainment, and Titmouse.
The production of Star Trek: Lower Decks season 5 faced interruptions due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. While the animated series fell outside the strike’s jurisdiction, the cast opted to participate in solidarity with their fellow actors. Fortunately, production resumed after the strike concluded in November.

What to Expect in Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 5
In this final season, the crew of the Cerritos will engage in an exciting adventure involving the management of space potholes in the Alpha Quadrant. These subspace rifts pose risks of galactic turmoil if not properly addressed.
However, managing potholes isn’t the sole dilemma for the Cerritos’ lower deck crew. The official synopsis reveals:
“Pothole duty would be manageable for Junior Officers Mariner, Boimler, Tendi, and Rutherford if they didn’t also have to contend with an Orion war, enraged Klingons, diplomatic disasters, murder mysteries, and most daunting of all: their own career ambitions.”
The “space pothole”storyline will serve as the centerpiece for the series’ concluding moments. During an October 20 interview with ScreenRant, showrunner Mike Mahan shared insights about crafting this final season without leaning too heavily into a farewell theme.
As Mahan articulated:
“This season aims to deliver exceptional storytelling typical of Lower Decks, featuring great Star Trek elements and hilarious episodes, capturing everything we cherish about the show.”
“As we reach the season’s finale, it won’t feel abrupt; it’s less a traditional ‘ending’ but rather feels like an ‘era,’ much like how Taylor Swift transitions through her musical phases.”
Although another season of Star Trek: Lower Decks is not on the horizon, Mahan’s comments leave the door open for these characters to reappear in future Star Trek projects.
This possibility isn’t far-fetched, considering Star Trek boasts one of the longest-expanding universes in both film and television. Crossovers are common, with notable instances like Spock’s cameo in the Kelvin Timeline films and Star Trek Generations uniting Captain Kirk and Picard.
Don’t miss Star Trek: Lower Decks streaming on Paramount+. The fifth season premieres on Monday, October 28, 2024.
