Upon reaching the endgame phase of Monster Hunter Wilds, players unlock the ability to forge superior weapons and armor. Crafting these enhanced gear pieces necessitates acquiring rarer materials sourced from High-Rank monsters. While the concept of tackling familiar foes might feel repetitive, these High-Rank creatures offer unique resources that result in far more powerful equipment than that available at the Low-Rank level.
One notable feature of the weapons you can create is the sleep effect. However, to craft High-Rank weaponry with this attribute, you will need a specific item known as Coma Sacs. These are exclusively obtained from a select few monsters, and obtaining them involves some strategic targeting; let’s explore the most effective farming methods.
Locating Coma Sacs in Monster Hunter Wilds

Coma Sacs are obtained by hunting two specific High-Rank monsters:
- Nerscylla – Found in Oilwell Basin, Iceshard Cliffs, and Ruins of Wyveria.
- Gravios – Located in Oilwell Basin and Ruins of Wyveria.
While both monsters have the potential to drop Coma Sacs, your best strategy is to target Nerscyllas. They are generally easier to defeat and have a slightly higher drop rate for Coma Sacs compared to Gravios. It’s important to note that hunting Low-Rank versions of Nerscylla may yield a different drop, so ensure you focus on High-Rank encounters.

Moreover, you are guaranteed a Coma Sac upon completing the main post-game quest titled “Investigating the Frenzied Shadow“.
Farming Coma Sacs from Nerscyllas

Unlike many materials that are acquired by damaging specific parts of a monster, the Coma Sac is a potential reward obtained by carving Nerscylla after defeating it. This gives you the freedom to eliminate the monster using your preferred combat style without the need to focus solely on breaking specific body parts, as this does not affect the likelihood of receiving the Coma Sac.

- Weakness – Fire
- Resistances – Water, Dragon
Targeting Nerscylla’s left claw can weaken its defense, significantly making it easier to inflict damage on its head. The optimal strategy is to position yourself directly beneath Nerscylla, which allows you to avoid many of its attacks while effectively hitting its less protected belly. Don’t forget to bring consumables to counteract Poison and Sleep, as Nerscyllas often employ these status effects.
Once you’ve taken down your first High-Rank Nerscylla, you can repeatedly embark on the optional quest titled “The Nerscylla’s Hunting Grounds”for efficient farming.
