What’s New in 2024 Microsoft Surface AI Laptop & Tablet PCs

In the year 2024, during the age of artificial intelligence, Microsoft stands out as a leader in embracing the AI future. The company is releasing two new AI-driven products, the Surface Pro 10 for Business and the Surface Laptop 6 for Business, aimed at business use. However, these units will not be directly available to customers.

The upcoming Surface laptops will feature Intel’s newest Core Ultra Processors (among the initial products to include them) and will also include Microsoft’s newly introduced Copilot key on the keyboards.

The upcoming Surface PCs will be equipped with a specialized Neural Processing Unit (NPU) that will enhance the performance of existing AI features such as Windows Copilot and Live Captions. It will also support any future AI features that may be introduced.

The Surface Laptop 6 is said to be twice as fast as the previous model, Laptop 5, and the Surface Pro 10 boasts a 53% increase in speed compared to the Pro 9. Although the appearance of the new devices remains unchanged, with similar screen bezels and design, there have been other notable improvements. These include enhanced performance and battery life, an increased number of ports, and anti-reflective displays.

In theory, the utilization of the Meteor Lake Intel chip in the Core Ultra Processors, which has been generating buzz as the forefront of “AI PCs”since its launch, should allow for Microsoft Copilot to operate at a faster pace on these devices. However, the true extent of the speed difference will only be determined once the devices are officially released. Consumers can expect to see them hit the market on April 9th.

Surface Pro 11

The Surface Pro 10 features the most up-to-date Intel Core Ultra processors (13th Gen) with NPU to efficiently handle demanding AI tasks and enhance overall performance. Its 13-inch PixelSense Flow Display has been enhanced with increased brightness and an anti-reflective coating, ensuring an improved viewing experience in both indoor and outdoor settings, whether at the office or outdoors.

With the introduction of the Surface Pro 10, Microsoft is incorporating 5G into the Intel Platform for the first time, allowing users to stay connected while on the move.

The Surface Pro 10 features a front-facing Ultrawide Studio camera that can capture 1440p video at a 114° field of view, ensuring that you will appear perfectly framed during video calls. Additionally, the use of AI-driven Windows Studio Effects will enhance video calls across Teams and other applications.

The compatibility of the Surface Pro 10 with keyboards and the Surface Slim Pen (both available for purchase separately) remains unchanged. However, an exciting addition is the improved user-friendliness of all input methods on the Surface Pro 10 thanks to the inclusion of Copilot. As an example, if you use OneNote to take handwritten notes, Copilot can now utilize AI technology to analyze them.

The device will include an NFC reader to simplify the process of password-less authentication.

Surface Laptop Pro

The Surface Laptop 6 for Businesses is equipped with Intel’s Core Ultra H-Series processors, which are specifically designed to provide desktop-level performance. This results in a significant increase in power compared to previous models, making it twice as powerful. Whether your team needs to tackle demanding tasks such as data analysis or creative workflows, this device is well-equipped to handle them all.

The 13.5″and 15″PixelSense touchscreen displays are both options for this product. Additionally, the camera has been upgraded to capture 1080p video with the help of the NPU’s AI effects. This allows the CPU and GPU to focus on more important tasks within the system. Unfortunately, there is no wide-angle camera available for the Surface Laptop 6.

In certain regions (namely the US and Canada), a version of the Surface Laptop 6 will feature a built-in smart card reader, allowing individuals in high-security environments such as government organizations to access their devices without needing passwords.

The release of Microsoft’s newest Surface AI PCs is a promising indication of future developments. According to both the tech industry overall and Microsoft specifically, if AI becomes as widespread in our daily routines as predicted, the new Surface laptops are well-prepared to meet this demand.
