Alexander Skarsgård Makes a Memorable Cameo in the Final Season
One of my favorite moments from What We Do in the Shadows debuted early in Season 1, and it has evolved into a delightful recurring theme. Now, in the show’s final season, a spectacular highlight has emerged: the guest appearance of Alexander Skarsgård.
The Vampire Connection
The premise is both intriguing and humorous: anyone who has portrayed a vampire in film or television is considered an actual vampire. This whimsical notion became even more amusing with Skarsgård’s appearance. Notably, Evan Rachel Wood, Skarsgård’s co-star from True Blood, made an earlier cameo as herself. During a vampire council scene, even references were made to other famous actors, including Wesley Snipes, with a clever nod to Robert Pattinson’s absence.
The idea that prominent actors like Tom Cruise or Bill Skarsgård (Skarsgård’s brother, who played Count Orlok in Nosferatu) are vampires is a hilarious angle that resonates throughout the series, enhancing its humor and charm.
Skarsgård’s Iconic Character
Alexander Skarsgård, who famously played Eric Northman in True Blood for seven seasons, remains a beloved figure among fans of the vampire genre. Wood’s role in What We Do in the Shadows represented an intriguing connection to this legacy, but Skarsgård’s cameo took that connection to a new level.
Although his appearance was brief, it was both hilarious and notable. Dressed in a leather jacket and black attire reminiscent of his character, Skarsgård’s performance was punctuated by a silent attempt to ask a question, which was humorously interrupted by Laszlo’s monster.
A Fitting Tribute to Eric Northman
One of the most amusing aspects of Skarsgård’s appearance is how seamlessly he embodied his character. Despite being himself, he resembled Eric Northman, complete with the iconic necklace. The show often uses such visual gags, cleverly blending the actors’ real identities with their on-screen personas. Hearing the names like “Alexander”or “Tilda”adds an additional layer of humor that fans appreciate.
While it would have been fantastic to see him get more screen time, the brief moment of him hesitantly raising his hand to speak after spotting the Baron still made a significant impact. It reminded viewers of Skarsgård’s fun side amidst his more serious roles in projects like The Northman and Big Little Lies.
Looking Forward to More Cameos
I sincerely hope that Alexander Skarsgård isn’t the last surprise guest in this final season. His cameo reinvigorated my passion for the unique blend of humor and creativity that What We Do in the Shadows consistently delivers. It would be a treat to see more celebrity appearances, but for now, I’m grateful that Skarsgård’s moment graced the series as it draws to a close.
