What positions do the Broncos need to draft? Exploring Denver’s team needs in 2024 NFL Draft
The Denver Broncos have initiated a rebuilding effort in light of trading Russell Wilson to the Pittsburgh Steelers and finalizing other notable transactions. As a result of these deals, the team now possesses eight selections in the 2024 NFL Draft, with their initial pick holding the 12th spot.
The Broncos currently have a few vacant spots on their roster that require attention. Fortunately, the upcoming draft in a few weeks will provide them with the opportunity to address these needs. Based on their current rankings, the following positions should be the top priorities for the Broncos in the 2024 draft.
Analyzing the Denver Broncos’ Draft Needs for the 2024 NFL Season
The position of quarterback.
It seems that the Denver Broncos are inclined towards selecting a quarterback with their 12th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. The decision to release Russell Wilson was made by the team at the beginning of the offseason.
The Broncos currently hold the 12th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, but they have the potential to trade up and secure their desired quarterback, such as JJ McCarthy. Alternatively, they may opt to keep their original first-round pick and draft a player like Bo Nix.
2) Receiver
Currently, Courtland Sutton and Marvin Mims are likely the only reliable receivers on the Broncos’ roster. Although Tim Patrick has been plagued by recurring injuries in the past two seasons, Brandon Johnson and Lil’Jordan Humphery have not made significant contributions to the team’s success.
The Broncos must choose a wide receiver from the 2024 draft class who will fit seamlessly into their scheme in April.
3) A player who specializes in defensive line positions
Despite already signing Malcolm Roach, a free agent from the New Orleans Saints, to their defensive line during the offseason, the Denver Broncos made a smart decision. However, due to the lack of depth on their defensive line, the team will still need to acquire at least one more player through the draft.
The addition of inside pass rushers, like Ohio State’s Michael Hall, could be necessary for the Broncos.
Tight End is a position in football.
The Denver Broncos’ top priority in the upcoming NFL Draft will likely be finding a tight end who can make an impact on the offense. Despite selecting Greg Dulcich, 24, for that role in 2022, it seems that he has yet to fully adjust to the NFL.
There has been much speculation that Denver may use their first-round pick to select Brock Bowers from Georgia, but it is more probable that they will use it to choose a quarterback. It is possible that they will have to wait until the middle of the draft to select a tight end.
The position of Running Back remains unchanged.
Having reached the end of their contracts, Samaje Perine and Javonte Williams make running back a position the Denver Broncos should strongly consider addressing in this year’s draft.
In 2024, Denver may have to search for a suitable backup running back. The Broncos have their sights set on South Dakota State’s Isaiah Davis as a possible fourth-round selection.
