What happened to Jeremy Sochan? Latest injury update as Spurs rising star to miss remainder of season (April 1)
The San Antonio Spurs have declared that Jeremy Sochan will be out for the rest of the season, as announced on Monday.
Sochan injured his left ankle during the game against the New York Knicks on Friday. After consulting with outside experts, the Spurs determined that arthroscopic surgery was the best course of action.
Sochan, who stands at 6-foot-9, began the season as the starting point guard for the team. However, after playing 20 games, he moved into a traditional forward role.
During his second year with the Spurs, the Baylor graduate improved his performances.
His points per game average increased to 11.6, and he also showed progress in rebounding with an average of 6.4 rebounds per game, as well as playmaking with 3.4 assists per game.
Furthermore, Sochan made significant improvements in his proficiency from the 3-point line, increasing his total number of 3-pointers made from 33 in his first year to an impressive 70 in the current season.
Prior to the matchup against the Golden State Warriors, Sochan had played in all 74 games of the season for the San Antonio Spurs, proving to be a reliable member of their lineup.
The current status of Jeremy Sochan’s basketball career
During Friday’s win against the Knicks, Jeremy Sochan left the game due to soreness in his left ankle. With the Spurs not having anything to lose in the last two weeks of the regular season, the coaching staff made the decision to not take any chances and allow Sochan to rest instead of potentially worsening his injury by keeping him in the game.
As a result, Jeremy was unable to play in the remaining game against the Golden State Warriors, which was the fourth and final game between the two teams for the season.
In the game against the Knicks, Jeremy contributed four points and a steal while shooting 2-for-3 from the field. He also committed a personal foul and had a net rating of -3 in the 17 minutes he was on the court.
San Antonio Spurs Announce Decision to Rest Devin Vassell for Remainder of the Season
Vassell, who was unable to play in the Spurs’ recent game against Golden State, underwent an MRI on Monday which revealed a stress reaction in the third metatarsal head of his right foot.
In the current season, Vassell’s offensive improvements were evident as he achieved a career-high average of 19.5 points per game.
Despite only appearing in 68 games, Vassell achieved a significant career milestone with 62 starts. His versatility was evident as he averaged 4.1 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game. Impressively, he maintained a high shooting percentage of 47.2% from the field, setting yet another personal best.
After three seasons of not achieving a 30-point game, Vassell displayed an impressive change this year by achieving six such performances. One of his most notable showings was in December against the LA Lakers, where he reached a season-high of 36 points.
This exceptional display was especially noteworthy, as it took place during a match that ended a franchise-record 18-game losing streak for the San Antonio Spurs.
