On Tuesday, April 2, 2024, musician Jack White expressed his gratitude to Beyoncé on Instagram for the flower bouquet she sent him as a gesture of appreciation before the release of her upcoming album, Cowboy Carter.
“What a sweet gesture to receive here in Nashville this morning from the talented and gracious @beyonce celebrating her new Cowboy Carter album.”
Since its release on March 29, Beyoncé’s latest album, Cowboy Carter, has caused quite a stir in the industry. According to an Instagram post by Spotify, the album has already broken records as the most-streamed album on the platform in a single day in 2024.
According to the 32-time Grammy winner, the album draws inspiration from films such as Killers of the Flower Moon and The Hateful Eight, delving deeply into the extensive archives of Country music.
The Surprising Connection Between Beyoncé and Jack White: How They Reacted to Each Other’s Gifts
Upon the debut of Cowboy Carter, Beyoncé expressed her gratitude towards singer-songwriter Jack White by sending a bouquet as a gesture of appreciation for being her source of inspiration. The bouquet also came with a note that conveyed her heartfelt thanks.
“Jack, I hope you are well. I just wanted you to know how much you inspired me on this record. Sending you my love, Beyoncé.”
White posted on Instagram to express her gratitude for Beyoncé’s kind gesture.
“Much love and respect to you Madam, and thank you kindly. Keep making beautiful and powerful music, nobody sings like you.”
The partnership between Beyoncé and White began when they collaborated on the track “Don’t Hurt Yourself”for Queen Bey’s album Lemonade (2016).
During a previous interview with NPR, White praised the Grammy winning artist and compared her soulful singing voice to that of Betty Davis or Aretha Franklin from earlier days.
White also discussed the origins of that collaboration and how it became a reality.
“You know, I just talked to her and she said, ‘I wanna be in a band with you.’ I said, ‘Really? Well, I’d love to do something.’”
Jack White explained how Beyoncé transformed a simple lyrical concept of Don’t Hurt Yourself into “the most remarkable, fierce, and astonishing track.”
He expressed uncertainty in classifying the song’s genre. He went on to elaborate that Don’t Hurt Yourself was extremely intense and he was impressed by her rendition of it.
In 2018, Jack White disclosed that he had penned an alternative version of the song “Daddy Lessons”for Lemonade. Unfortunately, it was never released to the public.
Who is Cowboy Carter and what is his mission?
Cowboy Carter draws inspiration from the Black cowboys of the American West. Throughout history, the term ‘cowboy’ has carried a negative meaning, often used to refer to former slaves who were forced to work on farms.
Beyoncé’s latest album challenges the negative connotations associated with the word, instead choosing to honor the strength and resilience of those it represents.
In an official statement, the singer revealed that the album had been in the works for five years. Additionally, she disclosed that she had recorded nearly 100 songs, but ultimately chose only 27 for the final tracklist. She had originally planned to release Cowboy Carter before Renaissance, but due to the pandemic, she decided to hold off on the release.
“I was initially going to put Cowboy Carter out first [before Renaissance], but with the pandemic, there was too much heaviness in the world. We wanted to dance. We deserved to dance. But I had to trust God’s timing.”
The singer-songwriter also disclosed that Cowboy Carter exclusively utilizes authentic instruments instead of relying on artificial intelligence, programming, or digital filters. Numerous tracks incorporate everyday objects such as birds, wind, and other natural noises to create an “organic and human”feel.
Ever since its debut, Cowboy Carter has been setting records left and right. The album has achieved the highest number of streams in a single day on Spotify in 2024 and is the first country music release to do so this year.
Cowboy Carter by Beyoncé was announced by Amazon Music as her highest-selling album debut on the platform. The album also set new records, including the most first-day streams for a female country artist and the most first-day streams among all of her albums.
As of Monday morning, the album maintained its position at #1 on the Top Albums chart on Apple Music, with 5 out of 27 songs taking the top five spots on the Top Songs chart.
