“What a disappointment” – Fans react to WBO potentially ordering Sebastian Fundora to defend world titles against Terence Crawford
Only a few days after securing the WBC and WBO super welterweight championship belts by defeating Tim Tszyu, Sebastian Fundora seems to have already chosen his upcoming opponent.
According to a report by TalkSport boxing journalist Michael Benson, the WBO has announced that Fundora will be required to defend their belt against unified welterweight champion Terence Crawford at a future date. Crawford, who currently holds a record of 40-0, most recently achieved a dominant victory over Errol Spence Jr. on July 29, 2023.
Despite some fans expressing excitement over Crawford’s expected return, others believed the matchup would be too one-sided for ‘Bud.’ In fact, one fan even went as far as calling the potential fight a ‘let-down.’
“Bud almost out for a year and then this is the fight he’ll come back for. What a disappointment. I’d rather he rematch Spence or Charlo.”
Despite being a last-minute replacement for Keith Thurman, Fundora managed to win the belt over Tszyu on March 30. However, many fans remain doubtful that he would present a formidable challenge to Crawford.
Prior to securing his initial undisputed title, Fundora was defeated by Brian Mendoza via seventh-round knockout for the WBC interim super welterweight championship.
Several other fans made comments:
“Who wants to see this fight?”
“Crawford is getting an easy route to undisputed lmao of course”
“Bud needs to fight Boots! Fundora fights Spence”
“UFC would’ve gave Tim a rematch but this broken sport… makes you pay for being a warrior”

The Rise of Sebastian Fundora: The Upset Victory Over Tim Tszyu
At 26 years old, Sebastian Fundora shocked the boxing community on March 30 by defeating Tim Tszyu in a brutal battle and claiming the super welterweight champion title in two promotions, despite already having a successful career.
The original plan for the March 30 pay-per-view event was for Tszyu and former champion Keith Thurman to headline. However, due to an injury, Thurman was replaced by Fundora.
Despite being listed as a 6-1 favorite by the oddsmakers, Tszyu ultimately suffered his first career loss as Fundora emerged victorious by split decision at the closing of the fight. ‘The Soul Taker’ was handed a defeat by Fundora.
Having secured his first world championship belt, Fundora had previously acquired the WBC interim title in 2022 after defeating Erickson Lubin. He also has notable victories against Sergio Garcia and Carlos Ocampo.
