Zoey Deutch: A Star of Romantic Comedies
Zoey Deutch has firmly established herself as a beloved figure in the realm of romantic comedies. Her latest project, The Threesome, made its debut at the prestigious SXSW festival. During the event, we had the opportunity to sit down with Deutch and explore her enduring connection to the genre, which notably includes her collaborations with some iconic co-stars.
A Look Back at Landmark Roles
Back in 2018, Deutch captivated audiences with her performance in Netflix’s Set It Up, where she portrayed Harper Moore, an overburdened assistant. Teaming up with Glen Powell’s character, Charlie Young, the duo concocts a playful plan to set their demanding bosses up on a date. The film, set against the vibrant backdrop of New York City, has become a fan favorite and holds a special place in the hearts of many. Coincidently, our conversation took place in Austin, Texas—the same city that provided the setting for another of Deutch’s notable films, Everybody Wants Some, also featuring Glen Powell.
Reunion Hopes and Collaborations
While their characters in Everybody Wants Some did not share a romantic storyline, the chemistry between Deutch and Powell is undeniable, leading to questions about a potential third collaboration. When I asked if she was interested in reuniting for another film, Deutch expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “I would love to.” The palpable excitement about a reunion was evident as we discussed the prospect, with both actors clearly interested in making it happen.
“Both of us are very game for that. It’s just about finding the right fit. But I mean, trust me, we’re trying, ” Deutch shared, emphasizing their commitment to this goal. Adding to the significance of the day, I encountered Richard Linklater, the director of Everybody Wants Some, as he walked into the theater to watch The Threesome. We exchanged thoughts on his film Hit Man, marking an unexpected yet delightful reunion for me.
