“We’re about the same” – Nong-O believes upcoming rival Kulabdam is cut from the same cloth
Nong-O Hama, a previous ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world champion, is determined to end his two-fight losing streak on April 5. He is set to face Kulabdam Sor Jor Piek Uthai in the highly anticipated ONE Friday Fights 58 event at the prestigious Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Prior to his highly anticipated match against Kulabdam, Nong-O sat down for an interview with Sportsmanor where he shared his fight strategy and gave insight into what he anticipates from his Thai opponent.
The icon, who is 37 years old, declared:
“I feel my game plan to face Kulabdam would be easier to lay out because, firstly, he’s Thai. And his style, although it’s not the same, I’d be familiar with it. And also, the height, as you mentioned, we’re about the same. So he wouldn’t have that much advantage over the range. So all that makes it a bit easier.”
Despite facing back-to-back knockout losses to Jonathan Haggerty and Nico Carrillo, Nong-O’s dominant reign as the division’s king for nearly five years came to an end. As a result of these setbacks, he dropped to the second spot in the division’s rankings.
Despite facing tough opponents in Haggerty and Carrillo, the Evolve MMA representative sees the matchup with ‘Left Meteorite’ as a more favorable one due to their similar styles and nearly identical physical attributes.
Nong-O dismisses retirement rumors, reaffirms dedication to fighting
Nong-O vows to continue fighting as long as his heart remains strong, refusing to retire and leave behind the sport he is passionate about, despite the inevitable effects of aging catching up with him.
Despite the recent decline in performance, he continues to be recognized as one of the top Muay Thai fighters in the world and is determined to pursue another title victory in order to regain the highly sought-after 26-pound championship belt.
ONE Friday Fights 58 will be airing during Asia primetime on April 5, and can be accessed through the ONE Super App, the official ONE Championship YouTube channel, and various other digital platforms. Be sure to consult your local listings for further information.
