In an exciting twist, Wendy from Red Velvet will collaborate on BTS Jin’s eagerly awaited solo debut album, HAPPY. The 30-year-old vocalist will be featured in a track named Heart on the Window.
BIGHIT MUSIC revealed the details of HAPPY on October 14, 2024, announcing its release set for November 15, 2024. This six-track album invites listeners on “a journey of discovering happiness”and will be offered in three distinct versions.
According to reports, Jin and Wendy met in person to discuss their collaboration. South Korean news outlet Dispatch confirmed Wendy’s contribution to HAPPY, stating:
“Wendy will support Jin’s solo album as a featured artist. Known for his youthful, vibrant tone and gentle voice, Jin is anticipated to create “exceptional synergy” with Wendy, who is famous for her remarkable vocal skills and exquisite tone. Fans are excited to see the vocal range he will showcase on this solo album.”
Fans are now keenly anticipating the innovative sound and artistic flair that this unexpected collaboration between Jin and Wendy will deliver.
Introducing Jin’s Collaborator: Wendy from Red Velvet
Born Son Seung-wan on February 21, 1994, Wendy is a talented South Korean singer. She debuted as the lead vocalist of the acclaimed girl group Red Velvet in 2014, under SM Entertainment.
Initially, Red Velvet launched with four members: Irene, Seulgi, Wendy, and Joy, before adding Yeri in March 2015, completing the five-member ensemble. The group is well-known for hit songs including Dumb Dumb, Red Flavor, Rookie, Automatic, Psycho, and Bad Boy.
Raised in both South Korea and Canada, Wendy is fluent in Korean and English. Her impressive vocal range has been demonstrated through various solo projects, collaborations, and OST contributions, with standout performances like Written In The Stars alongside John Legend and her heartfelt ballad, Like Water.
In addition to her work with Red Velvet, Wendy is a member of the SM Entertainment supergroup Got the Beat. Besides her musical talents, she is affectionately nicknamed the “mother”of Red Velvet by fans due to her nurturing personality.
In 2019, Wendy experienced a serious accident during rehearsals for the SBS Gayo Daejeon, which led her to take a break from public appearances. However, she made a triumphant return in 2021 with her debut EP, Like Water, garnering praise from fans and the K-pop community alike.
Over the years, Wendy has also ventured into television, serving as a panelist on the reality show We Got Married from 2015 to 2016 and participating in the variety program Trick & True from 2016 to 2017.
Following her return to the spotlight, Wendy launched her radio show, Wendy’s Youngstreet, which ran from 2021 to 2023.
In July 2023, she made her stage debut in the musical Rebecca, portraying the character “I”. This production was scheduled for multiple performances from August to November 2023.
Red Velvet’s fourth album, Chill Kill, hit the shelves on November 13, 2023, and earlier this year, on March 12, Wendy released her second EP titled Wish You Hell.
