Wee Beastie Unveils MXM RTX 4070 Mini Fishtank PC: Key Benefits Over Strix Halo Mini PCs

A team of engineers from China has introduced an innovative mini PC that ingeniously integrates the desktop power of a GeForce RTX 4070, utilizing the MXM form factor. This remarkable achievement illustrates their commitment to pushing the boundaries of compact computing.

Wee Beastie Unveils Kickstarter Campaign for a 4.75L Super Mini Fishtank Gaming & AI PC: Features Up to 128GB RAM, 16TB SSD, and RTX 4070 GPU

Creating a powerful computing experience within a compact chassis poses significant challenges. While many mini PCs typically rely solely on CPUs due to spatial limitations for dedicated GPUs, Wee Beastie has successfully developed a Fishtank Gaming & AI PC. This innovative system employs the MXM interface to incorporate a desktop-grade GPU.

The team launched its Kickstarter campaign this month, showcasing the impressive capabilities housed within a remarkably compact 4.75-liter chassis. More than just a small footprint, the mini PC leverages a customized PCB to incorporate a desktop RTX 4070 chip in MXM form, occupying significantly less space than traditional RTX 4070 models.

Powering this mini PC is either the Intel Core i7 13700H or the Core Ultra 7 255H processor, both offering ample performance for demanding tasks. The combination of these processors with the RTX 4070 GPU allows users to experience smooth gaming, efficient content creation, and tackle graphically demanding applications with ease. Moreover, the Fishtank PC promises to deliver an impressive 466 AI TOPS performance through its GPU, enabling significant advancements in AI workloads such as large language models (LLMs) and vision language models (VLMs).

The Fishtank PC’s design underscores its extraordinary power relative to its diminutive size. When placed beside a traditional mid-tower PC, it occupies merely a quarter of the desk space, showcasing an impressive reduction in volume compared to regular desktop cases. Wee Beastie positions it as a competitor to Ryzen AI Max+ 395 systems, highlighting its unique advantage of delivering substantial power without the usual spatial trade-offs.

According to Wee Beastie, aside from power efficiency, the Fishtank mini PC generally outperforms Ryzen AI Max+ 395-based options across multiple parameters, although Ryzen remains superior for CPU-intensive tasks. An appealing factor for potential buyers is the Fishtank’s entry price of just $699, which provides a robust configuration with the Core i7 13700H, RTX 4070 GPU, WiFi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, along with options for expanding to 16TB SSD and 128GB DDR5 RAM. On the other hand, the variant featuring the Core Ultra 7 255H starts at $899.

In contrast, competitor Ryzen AI Max+ 395 mini PCs typically fall in the price range of $1500-$2000. Even when factoring in additional RAM and storage, the final setup for the Fishtank is expected to remain significantly below $1500. Plus, unlike Ryzen’s soldered RAM, the Fishtank offers a superior upgrade path.
