“We will meet again soon” – Superlek starts the verbal jabs in throwback video of his victory over Jonathan Haggerty

With their highly anticipated clash at ONE 168: Denver just five months away, Superlek Kiatmoo9 has already started throwing verbal jabs at Jonathan Haggerty, the reigning two-sport king.

According to ONE Championship’s announcement, Haggerty will defend his ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world championship at the upcoming event on Friday, September 6 in the United States. The fight will take place at Denver’s Ball Arena, where Superlek, the current ONE flyweight kickboxing champion, will challenge him for the title by moving up a weight class. This will be Superlek’s second attempt at claiming a ONE world title.

Superlek initiated the first attack on social media by posting a video clip of their 2018 match at a tournament in the United Kingdom, directed towards Jonathan Haggerty.

“We will meet again soon,”Superlek wrote on Instagram.

Upon reading ‘The Kicking Machine’ in the comments, Jonathan Haggerty responded with a simple statement.

“And Still.”

So far, Superlek and ‘The General’ have only met once, with Superlek winning by TKO in the second round due to a doctor’s stoppage.

The Best of the Best: Superlek and Jonathan Haggerty in Muay Thai

When considering the best strikers in the world pound-for-pound, it is difficult to envision anyone other than Superlek and Jonathan Haggerty at the top of the rankings. Both athletes had a phenomenal 2023 season, beginning with Haggerty’s impressive victory over Nong-O Hama at ONE Fight Night 9 to claim the bantamweight Muay Thai championship with a devastating knockout.

Following his victory, he proceeded to knock out Fabricio Andrade in the second round and was crowned the ONE bantamweight kickboxing champion. In the time since, Haggerty has successfully defended his Muay Thai title in an intense battle against Felipe Lobo, which is already being considered for Fight of the Year.

Last year, Superlek, also known as ‘The Kicking Machine’, had an impressive record of fighting five times. The highlight of his fights was the epic showdown with ‘The Iron Man’ Rodtang Jitmuangnon, the ONE flyweight Muay Thai world champion. Their bout in September 2023 is considered one of the most memorable fights in the last 50 years of Muay Thai history.

Despite facing tough competition, Superlek emerged victorious with a flawless 5-0 record for the year.

Despite the start of a new year, he continued his winning streak by securing a unanimous decision victory against Japanese kickboxing legend Takeru Segawa at ONE 165, carrying over the momentum from his previous fights.

When two of the world’s top combat sports athletes face off in the United States, who will emerge victorious?
