The eagerly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday is gearing up for its production phase, with rumors suggesting a former member of the Guardians of the Galaxy might join this new superhero ensemble.
Scheduled to commence production in April 2025, Avengers: Doomsday is expected to feature a mix of returning stars from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).Currently, Robert Downey Jr.is the only actor officially confirmed for the film. Despite a few sightings of actors in London a few days before the filming begins and some declarations of involvement, much about the film’s team line-up remains speculative. There is considerable anticipation around fulfilling a post-credits promise that could bring a former Guardians of the Galaxy member into the Avengers: Doomsday narrative.
Is Chris Pratt Set to Reprise His Iconic Role as Star-Lord in Avengers: Doomsday?
Could Pratt Be Hinting at a Different Star-Lord Endeavor?
The recent suggestion about Star-Lord’s potential return has raised some eyebrows, particularly as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 was marketed as the concluding chapter of director James Gunn’s trilogy. However, during the audio commentary for the same film, Gunn shared insights that he and Pratt have envisioned a standalone Star-Lord feature centered on his reintegration into life on Earth following a prolonged absence.
With Gunn now leading the DC Universe at DC Studios, his involvement in future Marvel projects seems uncertain. Nevertheless, Gunn has expressed that he doesn’t claim ownership over the Guardians’ characters. Chris Pratt indicated his willingness to reprise Star-Lord under different directorial guidance, provided he has Gunn’s endorsement.
This raises the possibility that Pratt may have been alluding to an undisclosed Star-Lord project rather than Avengers: Doomsday, but his mention of the current film was clear. Although he didn’t provide a direct confirmation of his participation, denying such rumors would have been straightforward if he had no role in the film.
Until Marvel Studios officially reveals the complete cast list, fans are left speculating on who might return in Avengers: Doomsday. Some predictions seem more likely than others, with Pratt’s Star-Lord now firmly in the “probable”category.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to premiere in theaters on May 1, 2026.
