In recent years, ONE Championship has witnessed the emergence of several combat sports icons who have gained worldwide recognition. For Regian Eersel, his breakthrough moment came in 2019 when he went up against the renowned Dutch kickboxing veteran, Nieky Holzken.

Their initial encounter took place at ONE: Enter the Dragon on May 17 of that year, where they battled for the inaugural ONE kickboxing lightweight championship. Holzken’s main goal was to demonstrate that he still had plenty of fight left in him.

Former Glory Welterweight world champion, ‘The Natural’, came into the fight with a two-fight winning streak and relentlessly searched for weaknesses in Eersel’s defense.

Despite Eersel’s victory by unanimous decision in the first bout, ONE Championship decided to have the Surinamese star defend his title against Holzken at ONE: Dawn of Valor in October due to the intense and exciting nature of their first matchup.

Despite Holzken’s determined efforts to cause an upset, ‘The Immortal’ proved to be too much for him once again. He even managed to knock Holzken down in the rematch, securing another unanimous decision victory and retaining his world title.

The two-sport champ’s winning streak continues to impress as it reaches 22, with him also earning the ONE lightweight Muay Thai world championship title. He is currently on a dominant streak.

Nevertheless, up-and-coming French talent Alexis Nicolas is determined to show that every era eventually comes to an end and is set on claiming Eersel’s lightweight kickboxing world championship at ONE Fight Night 21, scheduled for April 5 at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

Despite Eersel’s fans believing in a quick victory for him, Nicolas’ promotional debut win against Magomed Magomedov proved that he is capable of pulling off an upset if he strategizes effectively.
