Watch: Luka Doncic toys with Rockets forward, sinks circus shot for 37th point in 3rd quarter

During Sunday’s 125-107 victory over the Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks’ star guard Luka Doncic once again showcased his talent with a spectacular performance. Doncic dominated the game with a game-high 47 points, even playfully toying with Rockets forward Jabari Smith Jr. for his 37th point in the third quarter.

With 10:47 left in the period and the Mavericks up 70-47, the five-time All-Star found himself matched up against Smith on the perimeter. As the shot clock was running down, he successfully executed multiple crossovers and a pump fake from beyond the 3-point line.

Despite being unable to break away, Doncic managed to drive forward and successfully score a contested right-handed scoop shot just inside the arc as the shot-clock buzzer sounded.

The Mavericks’ lead extended to 25 points as the 25-year-old’s circus shot left both commentators and his teammates on the bench in disbelief.

Despite Houston’s efforts, Dallas secured an easy victory on Sunday thanks to Luka Doncic’s impressive performance, leading by a margin of 29 points.

In addition to his 47-point performance, with 32 points scored in the first half, Doncic also contributed 12 rebounds, seven assists, two steals, and nine 3-pointers on 60.0% shooting.

According to Mavs PR, Doncic has tied forward George McCloud for the Mavericks’ record of most 3-pointers made in a single season (257) with his nine 3-pointers.

Moreover, as a collective unit, Dallas set a new record for the season by making 24 3-pointers, with a scorching 51.1% success rate from beyond the arc.

The Mavericks ended the Rockets’ 11-game winning streak, which was previously the best in the NBA. In addition, they now hold the league’s longest active winning streak at seven games.

Despite facing a tough push to secure a playoff spot, Dallas has managed to win 11 of its last 12 games. In addition, the team has maintained an 11-game winning streak while Doncic has been in the lineup.

Following their triumph on Sunday, the Mavericks (45-29) rose to the fifth spot in the competitive Western Conference. They currently share the same record as the sixth-seeded New Orleans Pelicans, but hold the tiebreaker advantage.

Despite this, the Rockets (38-36) continue to hold the 11th spot in the Western Conference, currently sitting 2.0 games behind the 10th-seeded Golden State Warriors (40-34) in the race for the final play-in spot. As a result, the upcoming eight games for both teams will be vital in determining their chances of making it to the playoffs.

On Monday, Dallas will aim to continue its winning streak as it faces the Warriors. This game will also serve as the last stop on the team’s five-game road trip.

On Tuesday, Houston will have the opportunity to redeem itself as it takes on the Minnesota Timberwolves (51-23) during their visit.
