WATCH: Jayson Tatum’s son Deuce adorably snatches Celtics star towel, refuses to hand it back
During the Boston Celtics’ game against the OKC Thunder at TD Garden on Wednesday, forward Jayson Tatum and his son Deuce had a heartwarming interaction. Deuce playfully refused to give back Tatum’s towel, providing a wholesome moment for the father-son duo. The C’s dominated the game, winning 135-100 and showcasing their strong basketball skills as they prepare for the playoffs.
Deuce had a lot of fun on the sidelines, including one instance where he playfully held onto his father’s towel and his father good-naturedly acknowledged it.
Upon spotting Tatum’s towel, Deuce promptly picked it up and draped it around his neck. When Tatum attempted to retrieve it, the determined six-year-old firmly refused to part with the prized possession.
Tatum led the game with 24 points, seven rebounds, and three assists while Jaylen Brown contributed with 23 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.
Despite the absence of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the Thunder’s offense was unable to keep up with the Celtics’ strong performance, led by center Kristaps Porzingis who scored 27 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and dished out 4 assists – the most of any player in the game.
The Meaning Behind Jayson Tatum’s Tradition of Writing “Deuce”on His Game Sneakers
Jayson Tatum is often noted for having his son’s name inscribed on all of his sneakers. In an interview with Bleacher Report, he shared the reasoning behind this decision.
“You know, Deuce is the real superstar in Boston. And it’s crazy to see the reception and the attention that he gets,”Tatum said. “When I found out I was having a child in my rookie year, never in my wildest dreams did I think that he would be as big as he is. Just his personality and I think that people recognize the relationship that we have.”
Tatum’s son, Deuce, was born in 2017, the same year he was drafted as the third pick in the NBA draft for the Celtics. His son was born six months after the draft and he welcomed him with his ex-girlfriend Toriah Lachell. Deuce has since become a beloved figure on the sidelines of his dad’s games, unofficially serving as the team’s mascot.
A couple of days back, Tatum shared a photo on Instagram featuring his son mimicking Kobe Bryant’s famous pose with the trophy. Deuce flawlessly replicated the Black Mamba’s expression while holding a smaller trophy and sporting a SLAM hoodie. This caused a significant stir among fans.
Despite their previous disappointments in the playoffs, the Celtics and Jayson Tatum are determined to secure the championship this season.
