WATCH: Andre Agassi in attendance during Danielle Collins and Elena Rybakina’s Miami Open final clash

On Saturday (March 30), Andre Agassi made an appearance at the 2024 Miami Open to witness the championship-match between Elena Rybakina and Danielle Collins in person.

During his illustrious and lengthy career, Agassi secured eight Major championships. He announced his retirement from professional tennis at the 2006 US Open, following a third round defeat to Germany’s Benjamin Becker. Agassi then bid a tearful farewell to the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Ever since, the ex-World No. 1 has embodied the epitome of American men’s tennis. Despite his hectic schedule, the 53-year-old made time to attend the Miami Open’s women’s singles final, featuring Danielle Collins and Elena Rybakina.

During his outing at the Hard Rock Stadium, Andre Agassi was seen wearing a plain t-shirt. In the end, his fellow American Danielle Collins emerged victorious in the final against Elena Rybakina with a score of 7-5, 6-3, securing her first ever WTA 1000 title.

The most recent time Agassi was seen in public was at the Netflix Slam on March 3, where he witnessed the comeback of Rafael Nadal facing off against World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz in a best-of-three exhibition match.

The American joined Andy Roddick as a commentator for the event. Additionally, he attended the Netflix Slam media availability event at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino the day before, sporting a stylish white suit and pants ensemble.

Roger Federer Holds Record for Most Miami Open Titles

During its time at Crandon Park in Key Biscayne, the Miami Open was dominated by Andre Agassi. With a total of six titles, the eight-time Major winner holds the record for most men’s singles wins at the Masters-level event, second only to Serena Williams’ incredible haul of eight titles.

In 1990, Agassi won his first major title at the Miami Open by defeating Stefan Edberg in four sets. However, in the next three years (1991-1993), he faced difficulties in achieving significant results at the tournament. Nonetheless, he managed to finish as the runner-up to his archrival Pete Sampras in 1994.

In the year following, Andre Agassi was able to get payback against the powerful American, winning his second Miami championship in a challenging three sets. He continued his success in Key Biscayne in 1996, with Goran Ivanisevic retiring after the first three games of the final match, allowing Agassi to defend his title.

Despite his initial lackluster performances at the Miami Open from 1997 to 2000, Agassi’s struggles served as a foreshadowing of his future success. As an eight-time Major winner, he went on to claim three consecutive titles at the tournament from 2001 to 2003. Agassi’s last appearance at the Masters-level event was in 2005, where he was ultimately defeated in the semifinals by eventual winner Roger Federer.
