Was Tim Tszyu hospitalized before Carlos Ocampo fight? Learn more about the Australian boxer’s harrowing animal attack ordeal

Despite enduring a harrowing animal attack, WBO world super welterweight champion Tim Tszyu remained determined to compete in his upcoming 2023 fight with Carlos Ocampo, even after being hospitalized just weeks before the event.

The 29-year-old was quickly taken to the hospital following a dog attack on his right arm while attending a barbeque with his friend, just three weeks before his scheduled WBO interim world super welterweight fight.

Despite the boxer’s injuries, his manager expressed assurance that his student would sufficiently recuperate in order to compete against Ocampo. In his statement, the manager stated:

“There is no doubt that Tim will be ready and 100 percent healthy and focused to take on Carlos Ocampo on June 18. [h/t The Sun]”

Thanks to a timely surgery, the fighter was able to heal in time and get back in the ring to face Ocampo on June 18. Despite the champion pugilist receiving 20 to 26 stitches for the bite, he still managed to lace up his gloves and compete.

‘The Soul Taker’ dominated the WBO interim title bout in the Gold Coast clash, securing a first-round knockout against his opponent to claim victory.

After his impressive winning streak, he solidified his dominance by defeating Brian Mendoza in October and claiming the WBO super welterweight title via a unanimous decision.

The Australian has maintained an unbeaten professional record of 24-0. His upcoming match on March 30 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas against American southpaw Sebastian Fundora will determine the WBO and WBC super welterweight champions.

Tim Tszyu’s playful prank on the family dog

Despite not holding any grudge towards his friend for the dog attack, junior middleweight star Tim Tszyu still has a desire to seek retribution against the dog for the terrifying incident that nearly jeopardized his fight against Carlos Ocampo.

‘The Soul Taker’ joked to Kayo Sports about the whole ordeal, saying that he was prepared to give the dog another chance.

“Oh [it was] my mate’s [dog]. He is still my mate. You know these things happen. It’s a dog you know… I was ready for round two actually. I called my mate up and I’m like we’re going to get the dog back man. Round two.”
