Was Bobby Green in the military? A look into ‘King’s’ life before the UFC

Bobby Green, a highly recognized lightweight contender in the UFC, has competed in over 20 fights since joining the organization in Feb. 2013. Despite his recent loss by first-round knockout against Jalin Turner at UFC Austin in Dec. 2023, ending his two-fight winning streak, Green remains a prominent figure in the division.

Despite finding stability through school and wrestling in his sophomore year of high school, Green’s life was still marked by hardship and he had already experienced a number of traumatic events by the time he reached 18 years old.

Did Bobby Green serve in the armed forces?

Despite facing numerous challenges during his teenage years, Bobby Green made the bold decision to join the U.S. Army upon reaching the age of 18. He successfully completed a rigorous 21-week boot camp program, earning recognition as one of the top privates in his class after excelling in all 20 weeks leading up to graduation.

Despite the fact that Green was expelled from the camp for engaging in a fight during the last week of the program, he consistently denied any responsibility and explained that it was a misunderstanding that resulted in his removal. Nonetheless, Green stands by his decision to not finish the boot camp and has no regrets.

Despite the possibility of being deployed to Iraq, Green was uncertain of his survival upon returning home. In an interview with Fox Sports, he expressed:

“I thank God for everything they put me through. It made me who I was, who I am now.”

Will Bobby Green be part of the highly anticipated UFC 300 event?

At the age of 37, Bobby Green is a highly respected figure in the lightweight division and it comes as no shock that he has been scheduled to compete at the historic UFC 300 event. He will be taking on promotional veteran Jim Miller in a 155-pound showdown on the early prelims.

UFC 300 is scheduled to occur at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on April 13, featuring an Alex Pereira vs. Jamahal Hill light heavyweight championship bout as the main event. Additionally, the co-main event will see Zhang Weili defending her women’s strawweight title against Yan Xiaonan.
