Warriors: Abyss – Understanding Combo Mechanics

Warriors: Abyss is a captivating game that masterfully blends various genres into a cohesive experience. This title draws inspiration from classic Dynasty Warriors mechanics, incorporates roguelike elements, and features gameplay reminiscent of Vampire Survivors. The result is an engaging gaming experience that keeps players hooked from the very first session.

The attack system in Warriors: Abyss may be a bit puzzling for newcomers unfamiliar with its predecessor. While the gameplay mechanics are fundamentally straightforward, they can initially create some confusion. However, with a bit of practice, players will soon be casting formidable fireballs and electrifying lightning strikes with ease.

In Warriors: Abyss, combos serve as the primary means for players to inflict damage. Each character is equipped with two types of attacks: a standard attack and a charged attack. By strategically combining these two, players can execute distinctive combos. A character can chain together up to six normal attacks, but it’s essential to remember that relying solely on regular attacks may not yield significant damage.

Unique to Samurai characters is the ability to unleash charged attacks consecutively, allowing for the creation of entirely new combo structures. The most effective damage is achieved when players synergize normal and charged attacks. For example, combinations such as Normal + Charged or Normal + Normal + Charged form the fundamental framework of executing combos. Notably, the sixth normal attack does not link to a charged attack, which adds a layer of strategy.

Each combo triggers a different animation and varying damage output. Players can also summon additional characters from their formation with specific chains—chaining two normal attacks will call forth the second character, while five normal attacks will summon the fifth character. Additionally, players can maintain their combo even if interrupted by a dash, making the combat dynamic and flexible.

To unlock the fifth and sixth summons, or successfully perform a Normal Attack 5 chain, players must collect a specific number of skill emblems. Notably, characters from the Dynasty Warriors franchise possess EX attacks, which allow combos to exceed standard limits and inflict enhanced damage. Skill emblems must be obtained to utilize these potent abilities.

While some characters may start with a skill emblem, acquiring additional emblems is generally straightforward. Players can earn them by strategically selecting the right characters during recruitment sessions after clearing each game floor or by defeating enemies, who can also drop valuable emblems.
