Wargaming Confirms Closure of Steel Hunters Just Three Months Post Early Access Launch

Wargaming’s Steel Hunters to End Services: A Surprising Closure Announcement

In a surprising turn of events, Wargaming Group Limited, renowned for its successful live service titles such as World of Tanks, announced the impending shutdown of its mech-themed hero shooter, Steel Hunters. Initially released in early access on Steam on April 2, 2025, the game garnered attention but unfortunately will cease operations by October 8, 2025, failing to reach its first anniversary.

In an official message posted on the game’s Steam page, Wargaming expressed their regret:

“Today we share difficult news. We’ve made the decision to sunset Steel Hunters. You’ve given us so much passion and support but unfortunately, we’ve come to the conclusion that continuing development is not sustainable. We know this isn’t the news anyone wanted to hear and we genuinely share in your disappointment.”

The Journey of Steel Hunters

Steel Hunters was first unveiled during The Game Awards 2024, with Wargaming’s CEO, Victor Kislyi, highlighting the studio’s ambition to forge new paths in gaming.

“This is a massive moment for Wargaming…With Steel Hunters, we’re pushing past our boundaries and bringing something completely new. Our ambition is to create one of the most exhilarating and compelling mech experiences ever.”

Regrettably, the game will not endure long enough to cement its place in the gaming landscape. Although it showed promise, many free-to-play titles have also faced early shutdowns, and Steel Hunters is no exception.

Final Opportunities for Players

For those who wish to experience Steel Hunters one last time, Wargaming is making all content available to players. This includes access to every Hunter, even those previously earmarked for future updates. Players can dive into all aspects of the game without any restrictions.

In addition, Wargaming will introduce support for custom matches, enabling fans to create private community games with friends. A farewell tournament is also on the horizon, with further details promised through the game’s official Discord channel.

A Heartfelt Farewell

Wargaming’s parting message resonated with gratitude.

“We are immensely grateful for your time, feedback, memes, and countless memorable battles we’ve shared. From the very first days of Alpha, you’ve shaped Steel Hunters with your energy, creativity, and dedication, and we’re honored to have had you on this journey. We couldn’t have wished for a better community and we’ll miss you all dearly. Thank you, Hunters, for everything.”

Although the news of Steel Hunters’ closure comes as a disappointment to many, Wargaming’s effort to foster community and provide closure offers a silver lining to the challenging situation.
