Warframe has officially announced the arrival of its next major update, Techrot Encore, which is set to launch in March 2025. This update marks a significant continuation of the storyline introduced in Warframe: 1999.
Since its inception in 2013, Warframe has successfully utilized a free-to-play model complemented by engaging paid expansions, resulting in a robust player community. The game developed by Digital Extremes is widely recognized as one of the leading live-service titles, consistently attracting over 50, 000 daily users on Steam for more than seven years. This impressive retention rate can be attributed to a series of content-rich expansions, the most recent of which was released in December 2024. Following the launch of Warframe: 1999, Digital Extremes is now focusing on further enriching the player’s experience through upcoming content updates.
According to a recent announcement from Digital Extremes, Techrot Encore will serve as a follow-up to Warframe: 1999 and will include a variety of new features. Highlights of this content drop include new cosmetics and an expansion of the available frames within the game. Furthermore, players will encounter a new enemy type known as the Technocyte Coda, which are described as “twisted copies of On-lyne.”Adventurous players will venture through the Origin System to defeat these foes while unlocking rewards via a revamped token system. Among the anticipated rewards are 13 Infested weapons and distinctive customization items. Players can also look forward to a new “Temple”warframe that boasts “weaponized harmonies, ”Gyre’s Deluxe Skin, along with four new photoframes, as teasers were revealed ahead of a Techrot Encore-focused livestream scheduled for February.
Warframe Aims to Reinvigorate Player Engagement

Historically, substantial updates for Warframe have led to remarkable spikes in player engagement on launch day. Notably, the introduction of Warframe: 1999 coincided with a Balatro crossover event, propelling peak Steam player counts to approximately 120, 000. In recent weeks, these numbers have declined to around 60, 000 concurrent players. However, the imminent release of Techrot Encore is expected to provide a significant resurgence in player activity.
As 2025 progresses, Warframe appears poised for expansion into new platforms. After launching on iOS in February 2024, Digitals Extremes is looking to broaden its audience by bringing the game to Android. Pre-registrations have been open for a while, building anticipation for the arrival of this free-to-play title on even more devices.
