It seems that the Oppo Find X7 series is not the sole device in the market receiving the most recent 5.5G network upgrade. Other companies are also jumping on the bandwagon, starting with Vivo. Vivo has announced that the Vivo X Fold 3 and the Vivo X100 series will soon be equipped with 5.5G support through an OTA update. Along with Vivo, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra is also set to receive the speed upgrade, which is certainly a positive development.
The Global Expansion of 5.5G Network: Anticipating International Coverage
Apart from Vivo and Xiaomi devices, the 5.5G network upgrade will also be available for the iQOO 12 series and iQOO Neo 9 series. This upgrade is expected to be delivered through an OTA update, making it accessible to a wide range of Chinese devices.
Despite the lack of information regarding the release of the 5.5G speed upgrade for international devices, as Chinese devices are currently receiving the update, it is possible that this may also become available in other regions.
Currently, China Mobile is actively working on expanding the availability of 5.5G. Unfortunately, the coverage is currently quite limited. However, according to the information we have received, it is expected to be accessible in over 300 cities by the end of this year. This will result in improved performance and coverage. Additionally, we can anticipate an increase in the number of devices that support this latest standard by that time.
China Mobile has announced their plans to make 5.5G available in major cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou by the end of this year. Currently, China Mobile is the only carrier to support this latest upgrade. Although it is likely that other carriers will join in the future, it will take some time before that happens. We will have to be patient and wait for other carriers to catch up.
Even though the advancements may not seem significant, 5.5G offers improved throughput for both downloading and uploading. It serves as a precursor to 6G, but until that technology is available, 5.5G remains a valuable network. It can be compared to the upgrade from LTE to 4G, providing a considerable performance boost.
