VirtualBox 7.1.2 Release: Performance Enhancements for Windows VMs and More

Following a significant update earlier this month that revamped the user interface, introduced a new icon, and added numerous features, Oracle has now released a minor “maintenance release”update for VirtualBox, designated as version 7.1.2.

This changelog primarily focuses on bug fixes and minor improvements, addressing issues such as black screens and performance slowdowns experienced in Windows virtual machines. The latest VirtualBox version now supports a multi-window layout, offers 3D acceleration for ARM-based virtual machines, and includes UEFI Secure Boot fixes among other enhancements.

This release is a maintenance update. The following modifications were made:

  • GUI: Introduced multiple window layout and various translation fixes
  • GUI: Resolved an issue where VMs created using Unattended Install were not properly removed
  • GUI: Added an option to modify the remote display security method
  • GUI: Removed the BETA label from the macOS/Arm interface
  • NAT: Improved slow performance on Windows hosts (bugs #22164 and #22180)
  • NAT: Fixed DHCP issues for certain guests when the domain is left empty
  • 3D: Corrected the enabling of 3D acceleration in virtual machine settings
  • 3D: Resolved the black screen issue with Windows virtual machines
  • 3D: Fixed rendering problems caused by improper view handling
  • 3D: Enabled the option to activate 3D acceleration for Arm platform VMs
  • GCM: Addressed issues loading saved states created by version 7.0.x
  • API: Corrected the handling of the NVRAM state with legacy BIOS and its removal upon VM deletion
  • API: Fixed the querying of the UEFI Secure Boot state when the VM had never been started
  • Guest Additions: Resolved error messages occurring during automatic upgrades
  • SDK: Fixed code building issues using XPCOM bindings (bug #22174)

Supported platforms for this version include Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10, 11, as well as Windows Server 2008 R2 and later, macOS (both Intel and Apple Silicon, starting from macOS 10.12), Linux, and Solaris.
